The tour was the highlight of our trip. - We were absolutely thrilled with the tour, and it was definitely the highlight of our four-week trip to Vietnam. There were only two of us, which meant the guides could be incredibly flexible and cater to our every wish. Marco and Say took excellent care of us at all times, and we felt completely at ease. In the evenings, they took us out and introduced us to the local food and nightlife. We also explored routes off the beaten track, allowing us to experience and see things that other travelers hadn't seen on their tours.

Ha Giang Expeditions exceeded all expectations - From the pickup in Hanoi to the final drop in Sapa, everything was smooth and impeccably organised. Our 4 days were filled with unforgettable experiences, and every detail was executed to perfection. A massive shoutout to our easy riders, CHA and TUNG, they truly made this journey what it was. They took care of everything, and as women travellers, we felt completely safe, comfortable, and genuinely cared for throughout. Even in rain and fog with low visibility, they rode with exceptional skill and caution. The stays were wonderful, offering beautiful views, and the meals were delicious with great variety every day. Huge thanks to Ha Giang Expeditions for the outstanding service, facilities, and for providing us with the absolute best riders. Highly recommended!

Stunning scenery, but poor communication and coordination - Ha Giang is absolutely stunning, and our drivers were kind, skilled, and clearly doing their best. Unfortunately, our overall experience with Ha Giang Expeditions did not match what was advertised, largely due to ongoing communication and coordination issues. After agreeing to take the upgraded sleeper bus from Hanoi to Ha Giang, I had to repeatedly ask for basic information, such as the departure time, and were never told the name of the bus line, transfer locations, drop off points, taxi transfer requirements, etc. We were initially told the bus would leave at 5pm, but the day before departure we were informed that our transfer shuttle would actually arrive at 4pm. This forced us to cut another tour short. The shuttle to the bus station then arrived 45 minutes late and was overcrowded, requiring us to hold our heavy luggage on our laps for the entire 45-minute drive. Once at the station, the bus to Ha Giang departed about two hours late, and we didn’t arrive until around 1am. Upon arrival, the bus driver did not know where our homestay was, unexpectedly told us we needed to book a taxi (at our own expense) to get there, and dropped us off in the dark on the side of the road. The ecolodge had not been informed that we were coming, leaving us stranded outside a locked, pitch black property after 1am. We were only able to get help because we found the ecolodge on WhatsApp and called using their WiFi. During all of these issues, I called and messaged Ha Giang Expeditions repeatedly but received no response until the next morning. The tour was advertised as having an English-speaking guide and a strong cultural focus. While the drivers were friendly and very skilled drivers, they spoke little to no English, which resulted in almost no explanation or cultural interaction throughout the trip. The drivers roles felt more like chauffers than guides. Several activities listed in the itinerary either did not happen, happened on different days without explanation, or only occurred after we raised concerns. For example, day 3's online itinerary included rafting, a cooking class, and interactions with a local family and school children. These activities were skipped entirely without any discussion, conversation, or permission beforehand. When I asked the operator why we skipped the activities, our driver told them we had already interacted with a local family earlier in the tour (we never spoke to any locals at any point in the tour) and said they skipped rafting and the cooking class because we were “too tired,” which is totally untrue, as we were excited for both activities. Only after questioning this did the tour operator move rafting to the final day, causing us to rush through activities and arrive late for our bus back to Hanoi. Even after the operator apologized for the ongoing miscommunications and admitted poor communication on their behalf, we were not informed that the return bus to Hanoi would drop us at a different location than the pickup point, once again leaving us confused with no advance notice, needing to take a taxi to our hotel. Additionally, my driver’s motorbike was leaking oil, and left black stains all over my pants and jacket, permanently staining them. While the company did apologize and attempted to address some of these issues with a small partial refund, the trip ultimately felt disorganized and did not deliver the authentic, cultural experience that was advertised.
