PM: Cu Chi Tunnels
Situated 60km from HCMC, Cu Chi is now a popular destination for both Vietnamese and international tourists. The network of over 200km of tunnels became legendary for their crucial role during the war. At their peak, the tunnels functioned as underground cities, complete with numerous trap doors, specially constructed living areas, storage facilities, weapons factories, field hospitals, command centers, and kitchens.
Today, ducks and water buffaloes peacefully coexist in the rivers alongside the road. However, the serene rural rice paddy landscape belies the area’s violent history. Visitors may find it difficult to imagine the destruction, damage, and defoliation caused by bombing and mines throughout this area. There is ample evidence of the fierce battles that occurred here during the 1960s when Cu Chi was a “Free Target Zone.”
Begin the tour in the morning. Before entering the tunnels, visitors can watch a short introductory video explaining how the tunnels were constructed. Spend the next hour exploring the tunnels. Afterwards, enjoy tea and cassava (a staple food for guerrillas during the war). Return to Saigon.

Approximately 70km away from Ho Chi Minh City’s centre, Cu Chi tunnels is one of the most famous historical vestiges of Viet Nam’s national liberation war. The network consists of over 200km of tunnels connected with one another like a cobweb.
With determination and endurance the tunnels were dug and removed with rudimentary tools, then camouflaged the openings so well that nobody could find them.
