- Quito - Otavalo is situated in the Imbabura Province, 86 km north of Quito. This charming town has become one of Ecuador’s top tourist attractions, surrounded by mountains, lakes, rivers, streams, and springs, creating a paradise that visitors love to revisit! Otavalo is globally renowned for its famous handicraft Indian market.
Our journey begins at 8:00 a.m., departing from your hotel in Quito, heading to the vibrant town of Otavalo and the most renowned Indian fair in South America!
- Cayambe - We travel along the Pan-American Highway, offering breathtaking mountain scenery and spectacular views of local people and communities in their daily lives! Our first stop is at the Pisque River viewpoint, where you can admire the majestic snow-capped Cayambe (5,790 m - 18,996 ft) and Cotopaxi (5,890 m - 19,324 ft) volcanoes. Additionally, you’ll see expansive rose plantations and fertile farmlands.
- Volcan Imbabura - Before reaching Otavalo, you’ll visit the popular San Pablo Lake viewpoint, located at the base of Imbabura Volcano (4,630 m - 15,190 ft).
- Otavalo Market - Continue your journey to the Otavalo Indian Market or “Plaza de Ponchos,” showcasing a variety of handmade indigenous crafts. You’ll have free time to explore the market and select unique, authentic souvenirs!
- Cotacachi - After lunch, you’ll visit the village of Cotacachi, known as the “music capital of Ecuador,” famous for its fine leather garments, which are displayed and sold in small shops throughout the city center.
- Cotacachi-Cayapas Ecological Reserve - Before returning to Quito, you’ll visit the stunning Cuicocha crater lake, located in the Cotacachi volcano (4,944 m - 16,220 ft).
- Quito - Finally, we begin our return to Quito, arriving at approximately 5:00 p.m. Concluding this fantastic private adventure!
