The area is renowned for its cattle ranching and agricultural activities. Flanked by the Pasochoa and Rumiñahui volcanoes on the right, Cerro Corazón on the left, and the majestic Ilinizas volcanoes in the distance, this region boasts breathtaking Andean vistas.
Here, the first technical stop will be made at an elevation of 2,945 meters (9,662 ft) to allow for acclimatization, enjoy breakfast, and capture photos.
- Cotopaxi National Park - The journey to Cotopaxi National Park follows the legendary Avenue of the Volcanoes, one of the most picturesque routes in the Andes. Within the national park, there is an opportunity to purchase handmade crafts from local indigenous communities.
As the journey nears the volcano, several acclimatization stops will be made to ensure comfort at high altitudes. Upon reaching the parking area, a hike to the refuge will commence, continuing up to 5,000 meters (16,404 ft) to reach the Cotopaxi glacier.
Following this remarkable high-altitude adventure, a return to the refuge will be made to enjoy a picnic-style lunch. Subsequently, a return to the parking area will occur for a brief informative session before embarking on an exhilarating downhill mountain bike ride to Limpiopungo Lagoon.
At the lagoon, a guided walk around this stunning high-Andean lake will be enjoyed, followed by a visit to the museum and interpretation center to learn more about Cotopaxi’s unique ecosystem and geology.
