Cotopaxi National Park
Cotopaxi National Park - Standing at 5,897 meters, Cotopaxi Volcano is the country’s second-highest peak, gracefully adorning the Cordillera Real of the Ecuadorian Andes. Enter Cotopaxi National Park for an up-close encounter with the Paramo biodiversity and an ecological explanation of its significance. After a brief hike, let the adventure begin! Continue to the parking lot (4,500 m above sea level) to ascend to the volcano’s first refuge (4,810 m.a.s.l). Rest and enjoy some hot soup at the refuge, or continue the ascent to the Glaciers, weather permitting.
Quilotoa Crater Lake
Laguna Quilotoa - Travel south along the famous “Avenue of the Volcanoes” to Quilotoa. During the drive, enjoy spectacular views of the Andes, Quilotoa Lake, and the colorful moorland landscape. Upon arrival, descend to the crater lake’s edge and return on horseback, or simply stroll around the rim. Baños and the Waterfalls
Baños - After a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Baños, take a short hike to visit the “Treehouse,” where the National Geographic photo contest winner picture of 2014 was taken. This location offers stunning valley views, beautiful gardens with hummingbirds, and the famous swing. Continue the drive for about 45 minutes, making several stops along the waterfall route to enjoy the beautiful scenery, before reaching the “Pailon del Diablo waterfall.” After a two-kilometer hike, arrive at this magical place, one of Ecuador’s top ten largest waterfalls. Visit “El Manto de la Novia waterfall,” and for the adventurous, take the cable car across the valley or try the zip-line activity.
Devil’s Nose Hike - Ingapirca - Cuenca
Ingapirca - Begin by visiting a small community called Pistishi. Hike a trail leading to the best viewpoint of the Devil’s Nose mountain. Although the train is not currently operating, the tour guide will explain the impressive engineering involved in the project, allowing you to enjoy the same views. For biking enthusiasts, a pleasant ride on dirt roads with minimal traffic down to Sibambe train station is available. Visit a local family farm to learn about local crops, traditions, and culture. Continue to Ingapirca, the largest Incan ruins in Ecuador, showcasing sophisticated Inca design, architecture, and engineering. Discover how the Incas integrated with the Cañaris, native indigenous people. Then, drive to Cuenca.
Cuenca Half-Day City Tour
Cuenca - Explore the most beautiful city in Ecuador. Visit some of the city’s most traditional neighborhoods, the flower market, the main square, and the “New Cathedral,” one of Latin America’s largest churches, featuring a famous gold leaf altar. Continue the tour to a Panama hat factory to observe the “Paja toquilla” hat-making process, ranging from classic simple designs to colorful, elegantly crafted, and expensive ones. Continue the drive to the lowlands, and experience the taste of fresh cacao bean pulp. Visit a local family farm, where cacao (the base for chocolate) is the main product, along with breadfruit, coffee, passionfruit, pineapple, and more.
