- Laguna de Secas - Begin the day early at 7 am to reach Secas Lagoon, known as “Laguna de Secas” in Spanish, located in the Pichincha region of Ecuador.
Pintag is the nearest town. The “Secas” Lagoon (Laguna de Secas) was formed over 400 years ago when the Antisana volcano erupted. The lava from the eruption split and was carried by the nearby river.
The Cayambe-Coca reserve’s rainforest is notable for its massive petrified lava boulders.
- Mikakucha - Enjoy birdwatching and observe wildlife such as the Carunculated Cara Cara, Andean Lapwing, Andean Gull, Páramo Pipit, Black-Faced Ibis, White-Tailed Deer, and more on the grounds of the EPMAPS control house.
Additionally, “La Mica’s” lagoon offers sightings of various bird species, including the Andean ruddy duck, Andean teal, Andean cock, silvery grebe, yellow-billed pintail, and others.
- Peñon del Isco - Traveling through the community of Pintag, arrive at the Isco viewpoint, a resting place for the Andean condor. Along the journey, encounter a variety of hummingbird species, such as the enormous hummingbird, the Ecuadorian hillstar, the black-tailed trainbearer, and the Tyrian metal tail.
Proceed to an elevation of 4000 meters, or nearly 13000 feet, where various wildlife can be observed, including the paramo pipit, black-faced ibis, varied hawk, Andean Gull, and Andean Lapwing. Continue to the “La Mica” lagoon to see a variety of bird species, including the Andean ruddy duck, Andean teal, Andean cock, silvery grebe, yellow-billed pintail, and more.
Afterward, return to the “Tambo Condor” restaurant for a traditional Andean meal while observing condors and other hummingbirds. Approximately 25 different bird species can be seen. Finally, return to Quito.
