Our dedicated team, including a tour guide and bus driver, will ensure a timely and hassle-free start. The adventure kicks off at 8:00 AM, allowing ample time for breakfast and preparation for the exciting journey to the Volcano and Lagoon of Chicabal.

The journey to the destination takes just one hour. Upon arrival at the volcano’s vicinity, a 4WD vehicle will be ready to transport us to the entrance, where we will purchase our admission tickets.

It’s essential to wear hiking shoes, as the weather can be cold and wet, and the terrain may be slightly slippery. Consider bringing mosquito repellent, sun protection, and some nutritious snacks like raisins, granola bars, or nuts for an energy boost if needed.

• Laguna Chicabal - After reaching the volcano’s entrance, we will proceed to the viewpoint, offering a stunning view of the lagoon. Take time to enjoy the natural beauty, tranquility, and fresh air before descending to the crater lagoon’s shore.

Upon reaching the shore, you will experience a welcoming energy. This site holds sacred significance for the Mayan people, who conduct ceremonies, pray, and seek favors from their ancestors here. With permission from the Mayan priest and indigenous witnesses, you might witness a ceremony. If not, you’ll notice many bouquets adorning the shore, representing offerings for requested favors.

If the weather cooperates, you’ll enjoy a clear view of the entire lagoon and might even witness a local legend: the Mayan God descending from the heavens as mist, skimming the water, and returning to the sky.

In Guatemala, only two volcanoes feature a lagoon within their crater, and this is one of them. Many Mayans visit the crater lagoon to conduct ceremonies, connect with their ancestors and deities, and immerse themselves in nature.

As this is a sacred location, swimming in the lagoon is prohibited. However, visitors can still appreciate the depth of Mayan beliefs, whether witnessing a ceremony or not. Even without a ceremony, the bouquets left on the shore as offerings or expressions of gratitude for answered prayers are a sight to behold.
