Discovering the Heart of Costa Rica at Rancho Típico Don Juan

Drawn by the promise of lush landscapes and genuine hospitality, I embarked on a journey to Rancho Típico Don Juan in Quepos. What awaited was an unforgettable adventure, blending nature’s beauty with heartfelt moments.

A Warm Welcome to Rancho Típico Don Juan

As a seasoned traveler and surfer, I’ve had my fair share of adventures across Central America, but the allure of Rancho Típico Don Juan in Quepos was too tempting to resist. The moment I arrived, I was greeted by Luis, whose infectious energy and genuine kindness set the tone for the day. His gentlemanly demeanor and patience were evident as he welcomed our small group, making us feel like part of the family.

Luis’s attentiveness was unmatched. During our ride to the ranch, he overheard a mention of a birthday in our group and made a special detour to pick up a cake, adding a personal touch that made the day even more memorable. As we approached the ranch, the lush greenery and charming animals painted a picture of paradise, and I knew we were in for something special.

Riding Through Nature’s Masterpiece

The horses at Rancho Típico Don Juan were gentle and friendly, perfect companions for our journey through the stunning landscape. As we rode through the hills, the cool breeze and warm rain created a magical atmosphere. Luis and his father, the esteemed Don Juan, guided us with expertise, sharing their deep knowledge of the land and their family’s conservation efforts.

The ride was an exploration of nature’s wonders. We waded through waters, traversed muddy trails, and marveled at the breathtaking waterfalls. Luis’s passion for Costa Rica and nature was evident, and his skill as a photographer added an extra layer of enjoyment. He captured beautiful moments of our group, ensuring we had lasting memories of this enchanting day.

A Day to Remember

Our adventure didn’t stop with horseback riding. We hiked to see the awe-inspiring Ceiba tree, spotted an owl and a toucan, and swam in a refreshing waterfall—a perfect highlight of our journey. The day concluded with a delicious, home-cooked Costa Rican meal of rice, beans, plantains, and your choice of fish or chicken, enjoyed with a view of the ranch.

Luis’s surprise cake for the birthday celebration was the cherry on top of an already perfect day. This adventure was, without a doubt, the highlight of my Costa Rican trip. The warmth and hospitality of Luis and his family, combined with the natural beauty of the ranch, created unforgettable memories. If you ever find yourself in Quepos, don’t miss the chance to experience Rancho Típico Don Juan for yourself. And if you ride Flash, be sure to send him my love.
