- Queenstown - The tour begins in the breathtaking city of Queenstown. As the journey commences, the guide will not only set the stage for an exciting day but also highlight and navigate through some of the area’s top attractions.
- Kawarau Suspension Bridge - Leaving Queenstown, the tour proceeds through the magnificent Kawarau Gorge, showcasing stunning views, the Kawarau Suspension Bridge, and the renowned Roaring Meg Lookout. If time and lighting allow, there will be a stop for the first fantastic photo opportunity of the tour.
- Cromwell - Upon exiting the Kawarau Gorge, the tour enters Cromwell, a region known for its fruit and wine production. Passing vast vineyards, the route crosses Lake Dunstan and follows this picturesque lake towards Lindis Pass.
- Lindis Pass - Traveling through Lindis Pass, one of only three alpine roads through the otherwise impassable Southern Alps, the tour stops at the famous lookout.
- Omarama Sheep Statue - While traversing the expansive plains of the Mackenzie district, several of the famous Merino sheep can be spotted before stopping at the charming township of Omarama. In Omarama, there is time for a break or to sample what is considered the best creamy chicken pie in New Zealand (in our opinion)!
- Lake Pukaki - Heading west, the tour begins to enter Aoraki National Park, with Lake Pukaki emerging ahead. Lake Pukaki is one of the bluest lakes imaginable, beautifully framed by the backdrop of Aoraki/Mt Cook and the Southern Alps. There will be a stop for incredible photos and to admire the breathtaking view. It’s easy to see why many Lord of the Rings scenes were filmed nearby, and these locations will be pointed out.
-
Aoraki Mount Cook National Park (Te Wahipounamu) - Within the national park, there is 2.5 - 3 hours of free time to enjoy walks/hikes or partake in optional activities. Recommended activities include:
- Local hikes - such as the Tasman Glacier View Walk or Kea Point Track for stunning scenery and photo opportunities.
- Scenic flights – offering aerial views of the region and a landing on the Tasman Glacier. Whatever activity is chosen, the tour ensures pick-up and drop-off, ensuring everyone is well taken care of.
- High Country Salmon - Bidding farewell to Aoraki/Mt Cook Village and returning to Queenstown, the tour stops at High Country Salmon, a local salmon farm, where visitors can feed the fish and taste some of the freshest salmon in New Zealand.
- Jackson Orchards - Nearing Queenstown, there is often a stop at Jacksons Orchard to sample or purchase delicious local fruit, fruit ice cream, and pies, or simply to stretch your legs!
- Queenstown - Unfortunately, the tour concludes as it re-enters Queenstown, where goodbyes are exchanged.
