It is the only museum in China dedicated to historical relics related to overseas transportation. The museum comprises an old and a new section. The old section, located in the former Kaiyuan Temple, displays ancient boats. The new section, completed in 1991 and situated on the scenic banks of East Lake, resembles a large sailing ship on the sea. It spans an area of 3,000 square meters (32,000 sq ft) with a built-up area of 7,300 square meters (79,000 sq ft). The new section features four exhibition halls: “Quanzhou Maritime Exhibition Hall,” “Quanzhou Religious Stone Carving Hall,” “Quanzhou Ethnic Culture Exhibition Hall,” and “Ancient Chinese Model Hall.” Afterward, the driver will return you to Xiamen and drop you off at your hotel.
