• Diri Baba Mausoleum - Located on the route from Baku to Shamakhi, Maraza village is renowned for its distinctive 15th-century two-story mausoleum-mosque known as Diri-Baba, situated opposite an ancient cemetery. Local folklore has long held that the incorruptible Saint Diri-Baba was interred here. Numerous other legends and mystical tales are associated with this site, drawing pilgrims and curious visitors since the 17th century. The mausoleum’s unique design features the tomb “built” into the rock, creating the illusion that it is suspended in mid-air.
• Juma Mosque - Shamakhi’s most prominent landmark is the Juma Mosque, one of Azerbaijan’s largest and most opulent places of worship. Although the current building was reconstructed in 2013, the original was established in 743 AD, making it the second oldest mosque in the Caucasus and the oldest in Azerbaijan. It has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times, notably after the catastrophic earthquake that devastated Shamakhi in 1859 and during inter-ethnic conflicts in 1918. Visitors can appreciate its historical and religious importance while enjoying the site’s elegance and serenity.
