• Gobustan Rock Art - Gobustan Reserve.
  This site boasts the largest collection of rock paintings and petroglyphs, created over millennia. It depicts scenes of bride kidnapping, hunting, fishing, rituals, and dances involving nearly the entire tribe. At the base of Mount Boyuk-Dash, Livus Maximus, a centurion of the XII Lightning Legion (1st century AD), left an “autograph,” marking the easternmost Roman inscription. There are also brief Arabic inscriptions: “Came, prayed, left,” and images of men in turbans.

  On the journey, small volcanic cones, a signature feature of the region, can be observed. Occasionally, smoke or bubbling clay is visible from a distance.
