- Mud Volcanoes - Mud volcanoes are a notable geological feature of the region, with numerous mud volcanoes scattered across the land. A charming dirt road leads to the active craters, steeped in local legend as the dwelling place of djinn. The volcanic mud, primarily composed of blue clay, creates a lunar-like landscape. Tourists are captivated by this surreal scene, eagerly anticipating even more fascinating vistas.
- Ateshgah - Fire Temple - Surakhany Village: Temple of Fire Worshippers. In the first century BC, Hindu Brahmanites and Persian Zoroastrians discovered a unique phenomenon in Absheron – natural flames emerging from the ground. The Ateshgah Temple was established at the site of the largest concentration of these fires. During that era, the Great Silk Road traversed this region, leading to the establishment of a caravanserai, an inn for traveling merchants, alongside the temple. Visitors will learn about the lives of the fire-worshipping hermits and the merchants who stayed in the caravanserai through engaging stories from their guide, enhanced by numerous installations depicting the beliefs and daily life of ancient fire cults.
- Yanardag State Historical, Cultural and Natural Reserve - Kazar region, Yanardagh Reserve (Burning Mountain). Of the many burning sites that once existed in Absheron, only one remains today. Near the summit of the most remote mountain of the Great Caucasian Ridge, an eternal flame has burned for centuries. The mountain is named Yanardag, meaning “Burning” in Azerbaijani, in its honor. In the concluding part of the “Gobustan-Absheron” tour, guests will witness this ancient flame and, from the observation deck atop Yanardag, enjoy a view of a third of the Absheron peninsula.
