Positioned on the Tárcoles River at the edge of Carara National Park, this 500-acre rainforest preserve provides the opportunity to explore two distinct ecosystems: the Tropical and the Dry Pacific. Birdwatching enthusiasts can discover over 400 bird species, along with other exotic wildlife such as white-faced capuchin monkeys, peccaries, anteaters, poison-arrow frogs, and the crocodiles of the Tárcoles River.

- Tarcoles - Delight in a relaxing boat tour with a professional naturalist tour guide and experience its rich and diverse wildlife. The area is a habitat for American crocodiles, and the marshes at the river’s mouth host numerous waterfowl and wading birds. Among the many herons and egrets are the boatbill and bare-throated tiger heron, with other birds including the double-striped thick-knee, mangrove warbler, and American pygmy kingfisher. The known bird list exceeds 320 species, including the lesser-known Guacalillo Canals. The avian diversity is impressive, featuring rare birds such as the Agami Heron, Rufous-necked Woodrail, Jabiru, Yellow-billed Cotinga, and the recently discovered Orinoco Goose. It is also home to Howler and White-faced Capuchin Monkeys. Less frequently seen are the Silky Anteater, Sloths, Grison, Jaguarundi, River Otter, and Northern Tamandua.

Each bridge stretches an impressive 300 feet, allowing you to traverse the heart of the tropical rainforest. Immerse yourself in the jungle and keep an eye out for the diverse bird species, mammals, and other wildlife that inhabit this lush environment.
The nature walk takes approximately one hour and includes some areas with steep inclines and declines, offering a moderate level of difficulty.
After experiencing a slice of the tropical ecosystem, enjoy complimentary fresh tropical fruits and iced tea before continuing the journey to the Tarcoles River. The Tarcoles River boasts one of the world’s largest wild crocodile populations, easily observed during our one-hour boat tour. In addition to crocodiles, you can spot numerous aquatic bird species, monkeys, and scarlet macaws. After the tour, return to the pier.
