- Puntarenas - Puntarenas is a key tourism region in Costa Rica, boasting a coastline filled with islands, inlets, beaches, and breathtaking natural wonders, making it an outstanding tourist destination. The area offers numerous attractions centered around the beaches, as well as protected areas on land and around its islands. Puntarenas serves as the hub for lodging, distribution, port of call, and excursions. The city is rich in history, traditions, and customs. Historically, it was the most significant port on the Costa Rican Pacific, facilitating major exports that contributed to the country’s development during the 19th and part of the 20th century. Its coastal location made it a vital center for immigrant arrivals in the mid-20th century. Its rise as a tourist destination began in 1940.
- Tarcoles - Experience a delightful boat tour with a professional naturalist guide and enjoy the area’s rich and abundant wildlife. It is home to American crocodiles, and the marshes at the river’s mouth host numerous waterfowl and wading birds. Among the many herons and egrets are the boat-billed and bare-throated tiger herons, and other birds found here include the double-striped thick-knee, mangrove warbler, and American pygmy kingfisher. The known bird list exceeds 320 species, including the little-known Guacalillo Canals. The avian biodiversity is impressive, featuring rare birds such as the Agami Heron, Rufous-necked Woodrail, Jabiru, Yellow-billed Cotinga, and recently discovered Orinoco Goose. It is also home to Howler and White-faced Capuchin Monkeys. Less commonly seen are the Silky Anteater, Sloths, Grison, Jaguarundi, River Otter, and Northern Tamandua.
- El Jardin - El Jardin de Orotina is a charming complex where tourists can find the best souvenirs to take home. It also features an excellent restaurant offering a delicious buffet with traditional Costa Rican meals.
