Discover the Magic of Lake Titicaca
Nestled in the heart of the Andes, Puno offers a gateway to the enchanting Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest navigable lake. This weekend, with clear skies and cool breezes, embark on a journey that promises both adventure and cultural immersion. Start your exploration with the Two-Day Lake Adventure tour, which begins at 8:00 AM. This tour is a perfect blend of nature and culture, offering a unique opportunity to live among the locals on the islands of Uros, Amantani, and Taquile.
The journey begins with a visit to the Uros Floating Islands, where you’ll learn about the fascinating culture and history of the Uros people. The islands, made entirely of reeds, are a testament to human ingenuity and resilience. As you explore, take a moment to appreciate the serene beauty of the lake, with its crystal-clear waters reflecting the azure sky.
After a morning of exploration, you’ll arrive at Amantani Island, where you’ll be welcomed by local families. Here, you’ll have the chance to experience the warmth and hospitality of the islanders, who will share their homes and meals with you. In the afternoon, hike to the Pachatata temple, where you’ll be rewarded with one of the most breathtaking sunsets you’ll ever witness. As the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, you’ll understand why this place is considered sacred.
“Must-see experience if you visit Peru - A wonderful experience and highly recommended. Attention from the guide, Jorge, great, always attentive and giving advice. The welcome and hospitality from the family in Amantaní, great. Thank you to Jovita, our ‘mom’ on the island, for all her attention and her love. Note that the climb to Pachamama Temple in Ammantani is somewhat harsh, but it can be done and is worth it for the sunset. The food and the visit to Taquile also great. I was afraid it was all a ‘tourist show’ but nothing further from reality. Bottom line: of the best experiences of my trip to Peru.” - Reviewed on 2025-04-28
Embrace the Culture and Craft of Taquile
On the second day of your adventure, continue your journey to Taquile Island. Known for its rich textile tradition, Taquile offers a glimpse into the vibrant culture of the Andean people. The island’s main square is a hub of activity, where you can witness the intricate weaving techniques that have been passed down through generations. Each piece of textile tells a story, reflecting the islanders’ daily lives and beliefs.
As you wander through the craft market, take the time to interact with the locals and learn about their way of life. The islanders are known for their friendliness and are always eager to share their stories with visitors. Enjoy a delicious lunch featuring fresh trout from the lake, accompanied by quinoa soup, a staple of the Andean diet.
The Cultural Heritage Tour offers a comprehensive exploration of Taquile, with a knowledgeable guide who will enrich your experience with insights into the island’s history and traditions. The tour is available from 5:30 AM to 6:00 PM, allowing you to make the most of your day on the lake.
“Perfect day trip to Amantani, Taquile and Uros - A great opportunity for the people who can only spend one day on the lake Titicaca. The tour started with an early visit to Amantani. Amantani is a really lovely island to visit because of its authenticity and lack of tourists. Our English-speaking tour guide Samuel grew up in one of the local communities and gave us a lot of information about the island. The hike to the top of the island (temple Pachatata) was beautiful and challenging because of the height (4100m). Both Taquile and Uros are more touristic but very nice to visit. We received a lot of information about the islands, the local people, and their traditions. We learned about the local costumes and the building of the floating islands. The lunch at Taquile was perfect with a beautiful view over the lake.” - Reviewed on 2019-08-24
