Locals often visit in the morning for walks, exercises, and jogging while enjoying the scenic bay and nearby mountains. In the afternoon, restaurants and souvenir shops welcome both locals and international visitors. It’s an ideal place to relax.
- Plaza Cuartel - Plaza Cuartel is a historical site, a restored ruin of an old garrison where Japanese soldiers tragically burned approximately 150 American prisoners of war in a tunnel beneath the park’s portal. Located in the port area, it is adjacent to the Immaculate Conception Cathedral and Rizal Park.
- Immaculate Conception Cathedral - This cathedral is a significant religious and historical landmark in Palawan. The Spanish-era church, located across from Plaza Cuartel, features stunning Gothic architecture with two belfries and neo-gothic interior decor. It serves as the seat of the Roman Catholic Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Princesa.
- Baker’s Hill - Originally a private property, Baker’s Hill has transformed into a tourist destination with a park, bakeshop, and restaurants for both locals and visitors to enjoy. It’s a great place to purchase baked goods.
- Mitra’s Ranch - Known as Mitra’s Ranch, this site is located on a hilltop offering views of Honda Bay and the Sulu Sea. Once the residence of a former politician, it is now open to the public. Visitors can appreciate the open space, relaxed atmosphere, and the unique chalet-style main house.
- Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center - Also referred to as the Crocodile Farm and Nature Park, this center is a popular city attraction. It serves as a breeding ground for Philippine crocodiles and houses some endangered species. Visitors can interact with baby crocodiles. The facility is dedicated to conserving two endangered crocodile species in the Philippines: the saltwater crocodile and the endemic freshwater crocodile. It offers insights into these reptiles, the only known survivors from the Dinosaur age.

Half-Day City Tour - The half-day city tour was an okay experience. Our tour coincided with a cruise ship docking at the port, so our tour got moved from a 7:30am pick up to 9:30am, and we were notified at 9:30pm the night before. I didn’t mind this too much since we could sleep in a bit more. However, because of this delay the tour itself was a bit rushed. For most stops (the plaza cuartel, immaculate conception cathedral, Baywalk, Mitra’s Ranch) we only had about 10 minutes to get out and take pictures. For other stops like Baker’s Hill and the Souvenir Market we were given 20 minutes.
Because of the limited time, the only highlights for me were really Baker’s Hill and the souvenir market. I was interested in the activities at Mitra’s Ranch like the zip line and horse back riding but we were only given 10 minutes which didn’t allow us to go inside. Unless you are interested in other locations on the itinerary, I would recommend getting a taxi or tricycle to drive you to Baker’s Hill and the Souvenir Market so you are not rushed.
