DR Waterfall Slides and Roadside Treats - Santos took excellent care of us from pick up at the port to the drop off. Along the way he stopped so we could try fresh avocado, mango and coconut water. He provided us extra libations along the way. We were two moms traveling with adult sons for spring break and felt very safe the entire time. The waterfall tour was incredible. We felt comfortable leaving all of our valuables with Santos as none are allowed on the hike. Buy the photo package!! We had a blast. Not for the faint of heart but so fun. Highly recommend this tour company. 11/10!!

Bring thick soled water shoes - Bring really good water shoes, lots of hiking over rocks and such. 35 minutes in, 5 minutes out. Feb '26 low water season couple slides closed. No body knew what to take or details. Tour company (camel tours) allowed us to keep our belongings in van during excursions. Chances are you will get really muddy in open wheel buggies so you may want clean clothes, you can shower there to wash off mud. Both excursions were good, buggy one was through some poor areas, lots of garbage and no beach driving.

Take money to overpay - It was all amazing, but you should keep in mind that you are charged $10 to rent a pair of glasses for the buggy, $5 for a handkerchief, plus you must rent a pair of water shoes in the waterfalls and these are worth $3.

Waterfalls- absolutely. Dune buggy: skip! - The waterfalls were gorgeous! Pretty strenuous hike to get to the top. Make sure you have water shoes for this trip, you need them. Loved this part of the adventure!
The dune buggy portion, I would pass on. Although riding in the dune buggy was fun, the tour stopped at a ‘roadside plantation’ (aka tourist trap) and a dirty beach where it was encouraged you purchase a cocktail. Out of 16 people, we had about two people buy the cocktail. On the way back from that beach, our guide took us through one last ‘adventure’ which was just a mud pit. We returned to the start covered in a thick mud that was difficult to wash off in the very weak “shower” that was provided. I am convinced if we had purchased more from the ‘plantation’ or the cocktail stand that we might not have had that last detour. When we returned to the dune buggy place, there were quite a few locals there to see us. It appeared as though we were being made fun of.
Waterfalls at 10+, dune buggy 2 except for the last part. So, just beware: bring a lot of cash so you don’t end up like this (the group that returned before us did not come back covered in mud).

It was said that a... - It was said that a traveler should have a “moderate physical fitness level”. In our opinion, one needs to be very fit for this excursion.
Nowhere was it mentioned that one had to “hike” 3.9 miles, up MULTIPLE flights of steps, an over bare rock. The hike was very strenuous in out opinion. And, we are fairly fit people!
The Waterfalls were estimated to be 3 hours. I took way longer than 3 hours due to the LARGE GROUP of people and continuously having to wait.
Nowhere was it mentioned that one HAD TO slide or jump into every waterfall. At most of the waterfalls, that was one’s only option. There was only one waterfall where one could climb down a ladder.
The Dune Buggy was estimated to be 2 hours. This ride was less than one hour.
1. The Dune Buggies we were given were a piece of junk (to say the least) and had to be jump-started.
2. They continuously came out of gear (would not go forward or backward).
3. We drove the buggies approximately one mile, where we were given some (free) fruit to eat and a shot of some awful-tasting run. We felt pressured into buying local trinkets and/or having our picture taken with a monkey and/or parrot.
4. After leaving that area, we drove the buggies approximately two miles to a very water-logged/muddy “hole”. The buggies were 2-wheel drive and continuously came out of gear (would not go forward or backward).
5. Then to top it off, of the three buggies in our group, two became “so stuck” in the mud that not even the tour operators could get them out. The tour operator “finally” decided he needed to leave us and go back and get a different buggy to come get us. He got a four-seater and immediately got it stuck in the water/mud “hole”. We had to WALK a good half mile in the stinky water and mud to get to the road. The one party in our group that did not get stuck took it upon themselves to go back to the Buggy outfit and get our driver Alfredo to come to rescue us. We immediately left this excursion, with two stuck buggies and us being completely covered in mud. Alfredo got us back to the ship with literally 10 minutes to spare.
6. Unfortunately, we really didn’t get to experience any beautiful Dominican nature or the beach that was mentioned in the Itinerary?
7. We don’t feel like we were taken to the correct Buggy outfitter for that part of our excursion.
DO NOT DO THIS EXCURSION. I can’t stress this enough – DO NOT DO THIS EXCURSION. IT was NOT AT ALL what it was advertised to be.
The only positive part of this excursion was that Alfredo got us back to the ship with literally 10 minutes to spare.
