Worth every penny - Jose Rojas was informative funny and willing to answer any of our questions. Would do another tour with him.
Berny spent so much time letting everyone experience the monkeys muliple times. This was the best monkey experience I've been on.

Good Tour - It was a good tour and some historical facts. We took a bus from Taingo port to the town centre. We walked from the souvenir shop to the pink street, the cathedral, centre place then the umbrella market.
Jose our driver was excellent. Of course, shout to Junior, our Tour Guide. He was great in keeping us together and giving us a good tour.

Excellent City Tour - This was my first time to Puerto Plata and this tour was the perfect way to see the area. I was picked up at 815am and after one stop to pick up guests, it was up the mountain that overlooks the city. Beautiful sight and many trails to walk. our guide, Demetrio, was excellent. our driver, Fioricel, did an super job of manipulating the curvy roads up the mountain.
Our next stop was the downtown area to explore Pink Street, Umbrella Street and the plaza. There was time for shopping and even grabbing an empanada nearby. Next was the Amber museum and the famous Fort near the water. Lunch was included and then we topped it off with a visit to the Chocolate Factory.
I almost forgot to mention the Rum Factory tour where we sampled 7 different kinds of rum. As our group was only 7 people, we all became good friends over this libation!! I was dropped off at 4 pm and I highly recommend this tour. You see so much, and learn even more about the history of this great city. Give it a try, no regrets only lasting memories thanks to great tour guide and our driver.

Highly recommend taking the city bus tour to Puerto Plata Downtown - My husband and I enjoyed the city tour. Our tour guide and bus driver started the journey to a neighbourhood hill overlooking the whole city. Saw a large cruise ship arrived to the port.
Next, we walked to several places starting with:
1) Amber Museum
- It was a learning opportunity to learn about Amber, the Dominican National Stone. Larimar stone - Blue Amber. A rarest gemstone exclusively found in DR.
2) Souvenir Shops
3) Tobacco and Cigar Factory
- Learned about the steps and processes of cigar production. The tour guide showed us the whole facility. Offered free cigar samples.
4) Umbrella Street and Dominican Cafe
- This street was quite vibrant with rainbow coloured umbrellas. Lots of restaurants and cafes. Many tourists here, of course.
5) Paseo de Dona Blanca
- Puerto Plata’s Pink Street. It was ‘pretty in pink!’ 💞🌸💐
6) Peurto Plata Centre Square
7) Fortaleza de San Felipe
- A large fortress in Puerto Plata. Very beautiful area overlooking the ocean.
Our last stop of the tour was the Coffee and Chocolate Factory. We also had a lunch buffet.
Everything was delicious! Had the opportunity to sample cacao pieces, coffee, and different rum flavours. The factory produced all the cacao, coffee, and rum manually. Saw different types of cacao trees all over their garden along with many fruit trees.
Some things we encountered on our walk through the city:
- Need to stay alert with the Souvenir Shops. Same product would varied in price.
- It is best to stay close with your tour guide and group while walking Pink Street. It’s overly-crowded. Likewise with Umbrella Street.
I wish we spend more time at the square taking pictures and grabbing drinks or snacks. We only had about 15 mins.
We missed visiting Isabel de Torres National Park (located at the mountain top). The Cable Car is currently out of service.
I would recommend the Puerto Plata City Tours to anyone who is travelling there for the first time.
It was a great experience! Our resort was very close to downtown, 30-45mins walk, or 15 mins taxi ride. They do not have a hop-on/off city bus in Puerto Plata.

City tour was disappointing but guide and driver were awesome. - Orelvis was our tour guide for the city tour and while I was a little disappointed in the tour itself, both Orelvis and our driver E. Richard were excellent.
We booked the tour specifically because the description included the historical fort and the cathedral. After boarding the bus we drove directly to the fort - but it became quickly apparent that we would not be getting off. Instead we stopped for several minutes while the guide explained some of the history and then we moved on. We were taken toward the city center to a specific souvenir shop where we were given a quick demonstration on real vs fake amber and then told we had about 15 minutes before our group would be walking up to the city central park. SIDE NOTE: we were offered complimentary bottles of water which was very nice because it was quite warm.
The cathedral was located in the central park but our guide explained that the culture in the DR is for everyone to siesta from 12-1:30pm and so the cathedral was closed and we could not go inside. Instead we were able to take pictures of the outside and then made a short walk to Umbrella Street where we were encouraged to view a presentation on agriculture and chocolate in another “hand picked” shop. SIDE NOTE: this feels like a bit of a set up because the tour timing feels otherwise precise.
After about 15 minutes we boarded the bus to go out to Monkeyland (separate review).
Overall-it wasn’t a bad city overview with shopping stops and my disappointment could have been avoided with more clear communication on the tour description. I don’t know if that’s a Runners Adventures issue or Royal Caribbean.
In any case-I would love to do a more in depth tour and would choose our guide and driver again.

Do Not Waste Your Time and Money - Don’t Come Here!
Unfortunately this attraction is no longer worth it. The employees here are rude and disrespectful. The cable car doesn’t work. It is not running. In its place they have a truck that takes you up the mountain and brings you down. It takes about an hour to enjoy the view and the garden but the driver and the guides only want you to stay for 5 minutes. They leave up there if want to spend more time, for hours. We were told that they would bring us down if they have room in the truck and implied that we would be there for many hours. We felt trapped. Do not come here.
