EXPLORING THE AMAZON
Tambopata National Reserve - Guests will be collected from the airport or bus station in Puerto Maldonado and taken to our office for a briefing on the tour. At 9:00 a.m., we will embark on a one-hour journey to our lodge nestled in the heart of the Amazon. Upon arrival, a welcome meeting with a refreshing tropical juice awaits, followed by room allocation.
After a brief rest, a two-hour guided walk through the lush rainforest will commence. A local expert will lead the way along our trails, showcasing a variety of flora and fauna.
Isla de los Monos - Post-lunch, we will visit “Monkey Island,” situated across the Madre de Dios River from our lodge. Here, guests will encounter various monkey species, including the squirrel monkey, brown capuchin, saddleback tamarin, and white capuchin, with opportunities to observe and feed them.
In the evening, we will search for caimans along the banks of the Madre de Dios River. Using a flashlight, their eyes will be spotted by reflection. With some luck, the capybara, the world’s largest rodent weighing up to 60 kg, may also be seen. The day concludes with dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.
SANDOVAL LAKE AND NIGHT WALK
Lago Sandoval - Following breakfast, we will proceed to the entrance of Sandoval Park (the only ticket to be purchased on-site). A 3-kilometer (2-mile) walk will lead to Sandoval Lake, one of the largest in the Tambopata National Reserve and home to piranhas. This scenic walk will be followed by an exploration of Sandoval Lake to observe various species, including monkeys, the prehistoric Hoatzin bird, jaguarundi cats, giant river otters, and common otters.
A family of giant river otters (nearly two meters long) that are endangered may be encountered, along with the largest recorded crocodile, over 4 meters in length. We will then return to the lodge for a traditional lunch. Later, guests can enjoy the pool and sunset before embarking on a night walk to observe a diverse range of insects, amphibians, reptiles, and other nocturnal animals. Dinner and rest will follow.
EXTREME SPORTS – ZIP LINING IN THE FOREST AND FISHING
Tambopata National Reserve - Early morning, guests will walk on suspended bridges among the tall trees. From this vantage point, the rainforest can be viewed from a different perspective, approximately 30 meters above the ground, offering a panoramic view of the Madre de Dios River and various animal species.
After breakfast, preparations for the zip line adventure will begin, soaring over 40 meters high among the trees. The guide will provide instructions on using the safety harness before the zip lining activity, ensuring a thrilling and safe experience. This unforgettable adventure will surely be a cherished memory. Later, we will return to the lodge for lunch and some rest. In the afternoon, fishing in the Madre de Dios River will take place. With patience and attention, large fish may be caught and served for dinner that night.
DEPARTING THE TAMBOPATA RESERVE AND THE AMAZON
Tambopata National Reserve - An early breakfast will be followed by time to pack and depart the Tambopata National Reserve. Guests will be transported to the final drop-off point in the center of Puerto Maldonado. It is recommended to book bus or flight tickets in advance.
