Puerto Maldonado to Sandoval Lodge

Tambopata National Reserve - Guests will be picked up from the airport or bus stations and transferred to the office, where they can leave any unnecessary luggage for the trip. From there, they will head to the port to board a boat and navigate the Madre de Dios River until reaching the Reserve’s control point. Here, they will register and enter Sandoval Lake, followed by a 3 km walk through the forest to a small canal. Canoes will be used to paddle across the lake to the port and lodge, where guests will be accommodated in comfortable rooms. After lunch, a canoe paddle will offer opportunities to see giant otters, black caimans, shanshos (prehistoric birds), turtles, and various birds. Dinner will be served at the lodge, followed by a nighttime canoe visit to the lake with lanterns to spot black caimans and other species, before returning to the private lodge rooms with showers.

Exploring Wildlife Flora and Fauna to Sandoval Lodge

Tambopata National Reserve - Guests will wake up to the sound of birds and enjoy a delicious breakfast. At Sandoval Lake, they can explore a wildlife sanctuary with over 65 species of migratory and resident birds. Aquatic life such as giant otters, turtles, and caimans can be seen basking on logs, while macaws add color as they feast on palm fruits.

After lunch, guests will explore the cool virgin forest, encountering towering chestnut trees and learning about local harvesting practices. Medicinal plants like ayahuasca and vibrant wildlife, including capuchin monkeys, howlers, and tarantulas, can be discovered.

After a hearty dinner at the lodge, a nighttime forest adventure awaits, where nocturnal creatures like frogs, night monkeys, and elusive mammals emerge. Guests will return to cozy rooms, reflecting on a day filled with wildlife and exploration.

Wildlife Lake Sandoval Reserve Center

Lago Sandoval - Guests will rise early to witness the stunning sunrise over Sandoval Lake, with its glassy surface reflecting the first light. After a delightful breakfast, a serene canoe journey across the lake will reveal vibrant wildlife such as parrots, parakeets, and majestic macaws nesting in ancient Mauritia palm trees.

An expert guide will lead guests into the untouched rainforest, unveiling ecological wonders like towering trees and a diverse range of flora and fauna, including endemic species.

Returning to the lodge, guests will enjoy a delicious lunch and leisure time, perhaps with a refreshing swim in Lake Sandoval. As the sun sets, stunning photographs can be captured from the canoe, showcasing the Amazonian sunset.

After dinner, guests will gather around a campfire under the starlit sky to hear jungle stories and legends from the guide, making for an unforgettable day in the Amazon jungle.

Sandoval Lodge to Puerto Maldonado / Airport / Bus Stations

Lago Sandoval - After enjoying the trip, guests will have breakfast and pack their belongings to board the rowing canoe. They will navigate the lake and a channel to the port’s end, then walk to the checkpoint where an outboard boat awaits. The journey continues up the Madre de Dios River to Puerto Maldonado. Guests will transfer to the office to collect their left luggage before heading to the airport or land terminal.
