• Lake Sandoval - The journey begins with a pickup at Puerto Maldonado’s Main Square, followed by a 40-minute boat ride on the Madre de Dios River towards the Tambopata National Reserve. After a brief registration, a 3 km hike on a clean, well-maintained trail with an ecological bridge leads to Lake Sandoval. With some luck, travelers might encounter monkeys, snakes, tarantulas, tropical birds, parrots, and various jungle mammals along the way. At the hike’s end, a canoe ride across the lake takes visitors to the cabins, where herons, shore birds, caimans, and possibly the magnificent giant river otter can be observed. Upon arrival at the lodge, a traditional Amazonian lunch prepared by Luis and his family is served, followed by a relaxing break in the hammocks. The adventure continues with more wildlife spotting by canoe before returning to the boat around 4:00 pm to head back to Puerto Maldonado.
