DAY 1: Arrival, Jungle Walk & Sunset on the River
Arrival and Transfer:
Travelers will be collected from the airport or bus station and transported to the lodge. The journey will take approximately 25 minutes through the city of Puerto Maldonado. En route, a small community can be seen where many parrots and macaws are visible. Upon arrival, guests will be shown to their private rooms, offering stunning views of the Tambopata River.
Connect with the Jungle:
After a brief rest, enjoy a 1-hour introductory hike through the tropical rainforest, led by a local expert. Walk along forest trails surrounded by ancient trees—some over 500 years old—and observe wildlife such as toucans, orioles, parrots, monkeys, snakes, butterflies, and more. Experience the magic of the Amazon rainforest firsthand.
Amazonian Lunch
Sunset, Caimans, and Capybaras:
At 3:30 p.m., embark on a boat trip along the Tambopata River to enjoy the vibrant Amazonian sunset. Relax on the comfortable boat with panoramic seats as sloths and tropical birds are spotted along the riverbanks. Using flashlights, search for white caimans, herons, and capybaras—the world’s largest rodent—with a 90% chance of spotting them.
DAY 2: Lake Sandoval – Heart of Tambopata National Reserve
Wildlife at Lake Sandoval:
At 5:00 a.m., after breakfast, prepare the backpacks and head to one of the most stunning spots in Tambopata National Reserve—Lake Sandoval, a 3 km-wide body of water known for its incredible biodiversity. A 1-hour and 20-minute boat ride will take you to the park entrance. After the ranger checkpoint, walk about 3 km (2 miles) to reach the lake, home to piranhas and surrounded by lush forest. Then, board a rowing canoe to explore the lake and spot a variety of wildlife—cormorants, hoatzins, jacanas, herons, eagles, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, black capuchins, tamarins, and sloths.
If fortunate, a family of giant river otters (up to 2 meters long) and even the largest caiman ever recorded (over 4 meters long) might be encountered.
Return to the Lodge & Amazonian Lunch
Night Walk:
After sunset, grab the flashlights for a guided night hike through the forest. There is a chance to find nocturnal animals and insects such as night monkeys, frogs, tarantulas, rodents, owls, fireflies, and snakes. Fascinating nocturnal plants that only reveal their beauty at night will also be seen—a truly magical experience in the heart of the Amazon.
Amazonian Dinner
DAY 3: Parrot Clay Lick & Sunrise on the Tambopata River
At 5:00 a.m., rise early to witness one of nature’s most spectacular shows—a gathering of parrots at a clay lick. Travel about one hour by land or river from the lodge. Enjoy the Amazon sunrise and the sounds of awakening wildlife—chirping birds and buzzing insects. For bird lovers, this is an unforgettable experience! At the clay wall, observe dozens of parrots feeding on mineral-rich clay that helps them detoxify and digest their food. Please maintain a safe distance to avoid disturbing them.
Breakfast:
Enjoy a delicious continental breakfast before returning.
Return to the City & End of Tour:
Around 10:30 a.m., pack up and bid farewell to the incredible biodiversity of the Peruvian Amazon. Transfer back to Puerto Maldonado—either to the airport or the bus station—for the onward journey.
