The sunset at Manialtepec Lagoon is a breathtaking natural display, coloring the sky and water with vivid hues. This experience reaches its peak with the bioluminescence phenomenon, where the lagoon’s waters glow brilliantly at nightfall.

The lagoon hosts microorganisms known as dinoflagellates, which illuminate the darkness. When the water is stirred, the plankton emits a bright blue light, visible during the night.

For optimal viewing, a dark sky is preferable, so it’s best to avoid nights with a full moon. The rainy season, from May to December, offers the most intense opportunity to witness this phenomenon.
