This tour is unique because it showcases the rich history and ancestral culture of the Zapotec people, which is one of the 16 ethnic groups in Oaxaca. In Puerto Escondido, you’ll find many tour operators, but trust me, none of them offers this unique experience. That’s what makes this tour so unique.

- Puerto Escondido - On the return journey to Puerto Escondido, which takes about 2 more hours, the tour will delve into the history of Don Tristano de Arellano. Known for his knowledge of the fertility of the Bajo, he was tempted by greed and sought to deprive the indigenous people of their land to form a Hacienda. He approached the Viceroy for the respective property title. The Viceroy of New Spain informed the Mayor of Huatulco in Antequera that Don Tristano de Arellano, the trustee of Tututepec, requested certain lands in the lower part of Pochutla to possess them as property. The Viceroy’s response indicated that these lands belonged to some people and any potential harm to the indigenous people would be investigated, with findings and opinions sent for appropriate action.
