The Great Pyramid of Cholula, boasting the largest pyramid base in the world by volume, will be our first stop. At its summit stands the Shrine of Our Lady of Remedies, a 16th-century temple offering stunning views of the valley.
Next, we will explore the former Convent of San Gabriel, one of Mexico’s oldest Franciscan complexes, constructed in the 16th century. It is notable for its austere architecture and expansive open chapel, pivotal in the region’s evangelization.
The journey continues at the Plaza de la Concordia, the city’s vibrant center, encircled by traditional arcades.
Finally, we will visit the Temple of Santa Maria Tonantzintla, renowned for its indigenous baroque interior from the 17th and 18th centuries, exemplifying the blend of indigenous traditions and Catholic faith.
- Crystal Lookout - We will proceed to the Magic Town of Atlixco, a city with pre-Hispanic origins and significant colonial-era agricultural and textile production. Known today as “Atlixco de las Flores” for its favorable climate and vibrant nurseries.
Our first destination will be the Cerro de San Miguel viewpoint, a landmark crowned by a chapel dedicated to the Archangel San Miguel, built in the 16th century. This hill, once a ceremonial center, is now a prominent city landmark. From its peak, enjoy breathtaking views and capture stunning photos with the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes as a magnificent backdrop.
- Atlixco - Our final stop will be the former Convent of Carmen, established in 1608 by Franciscans at the base of Cerro de San Miguel. Dedicated to the Virgin of Carmen, it serves as a historical and religious landmark of the city.
As we descend, we will explore the traditional Wide Stairs, adorned with murals by local artist Juan Manuel Martínez Caltenco, featuring floral designs that embody Atlixco’s identity.
We will then visit Ximitl Ice Cream Shop to savor artisanal seasonal ice cream. Continuing along Calle de las Flores towards the zocalo, we will admire the mosaic-decorated Kiosk of Atlixco and the 17th-century Parish of Santa María de la Natividad, concluding with the murals of the Municipal Palace.
