Wukang Road - The Wukang Mansion on Wukang Road is a renowned building designed by the esteemed Hungarian-Slovak architect László Hudec (1893–1958). Shaped like a giant vessel, it was the most famous English-style building in Shanghai during the 1930s. Spend half a day strolling along Wukang Road for a unique Shanghai experience.
Yu Garden (Yuyuan) - Nestled in downtown Shanghai, Yu Garden is a cluster of antique buildings with a history spanning over 400 years. Originally a private garden during the Ming Dynasty, it was constructed in the Jiajing period. The garden boasts a grand scale and beautiful scenery, featuring numerous historical buildings and cultural relics. It is also an excellent place to purchase traditional handicrafts and savor Shanghai cuisine.
Shanghai Tower - Located in the heart of Shanghai’s CBD, Lujiazui Financial Zone, Shanghai Tower is a majestic skyscraper with 127 floors above and 5 below ground. Visitors can ascend to the top for a breathtaking bird’s-eye view of Shanghai’s city center.
Nanjing Lu (Nanjing Road) - Nanjing Road is Shanghai’s main shopping street and the world’s longest shopping district, stretching approximately 6 km and attracting over 1 million visitors daily. Tourists often celebrate holidays like Chinese New Year and New Year’s Eve here. Some buildings and shopping malls along Nanjing Road may host fireworks displays. The area is home to Shanghai’s oldest and largest department stores, various domestic retail outlets, and traditional eateries with rich histories.
The Bund - The Bund is a captivating boulevard where time is preserved through architecture. It features 22 stunning buildings designed by famous architects, making it a magnificent stage in modern China. Wangfujing Street - Known as “Golden Street” in Beijing, Wangfujing Walking Street is a famous business zone with a history spanning over a hundred years. Tongshenghe is renowned for its cloth shoes and caps, with many Chinese celebrities having customized their shoes here. Visitors can also order tailor-made shoes. Wuyutai Tea Shop, with over 120 years of history, is famous for jasmine tea, known for regulating vital energy and soothing nerves. Donglaishun Restaurant, established in 1903, is famous for mutton hot pot, while Quanjude is the most renowned roast duck restaurant in China, offering the original roast duck experience.
Time Machine to Ancient Beijing
Tiananmen Square (Tiananmen Guangchang) - Located in the heart of Beijing, Tiananmen Square is one of China’s most iconic landmarks. Its history dates back to the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. The square has witnessed significant events, including Chairman Mao Zedong’s declaration of the People’s Republic of China from atop the Tiananmen Gate. Tiananmen Square remains a crucial political and cultural center, hosting national celebrations, state ceremonies, and diplomatic events. The annual flag-raising ceremony on National Day and elaborate floral displays during important national events highlight its ongoing significance.
Forbidden City-The Palace Museum - The Forbidden City, a palace complex in central Beijing, houses the Palace Museum and served as the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming dynasty to the end of the Qing dynasty (1420 to 1912). It was the home of emperors and their households and the ceremonial and political center of Chinese government for nearly 500 years.
Constructed from 1406 to 1420, the complex consists of 980 buildings and covers 72 hectares (over 180 acres). The palace exemplifies traditional Chinese palatial architecture and has influenced cultural and architectural developments in East Asia and beyond. Declared a World Heritage Site in 1987, it is listed by UNESCO as the largest collection of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world.
Guests will visit the Forbidden City, where emperors ruled, concubines fluttered their fans, and eunuchs schemed for five hundred years.
The Temple Of Heaven - Located in southern Beijing, the Temple of Heaven was first constructed in 1420. It was where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties worshipped the god of heaven and prayed for good harvests. Covering 273 hectares, it is the world’s largest architectural complex for rituals paying homage to heaven.
The Temple of Heaven’s structure resembles the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests. Three Echo Stones are outside the gate of the Imperial Heavenly Vault. Standing on the first stone, you hear one echo; on the second and third stones, you hear two and three echoes, respectively. Another point of interest is the Echo Wall, with a perimeter of 193 meters. If you and a friend stand at opposite ends and whisper, your friend will clearly hear you, utilizing sound wave theory.

The Great Wall is one of the world’s greatest wonders and a symbol of the Chinese nation.
Built during the Qin Dynasty and undergoing successive additions and repairs, most of what is seen today was constructed in the Ming Dynasty. The Great Wall stretches approximately 21,196.18 kilometers, with parts dating back to the Western Zhou Dynasty. It is a series of fortifications built to protect China from invading enemies, showcasing the ingenuity and labor of ancient Chinese people.
The Great Wall is a defense system combining a wall with numerous cities, barriers, pavilions, and markers. The culture of the Great Wall was formed based on this structure.
The Juyongguan section is a famous ancient part of the Great Wall in northern Beijing and one of China’s castles, also known as “the First Pass Under Heaven.”
Summer Palace (Yiheyuan) - The Summer Palace is considered the best-preserved imperial garden in the world and the largest of its kind still existing in China. Most visitors spend at least half a day there, as there is much to see and enjoy.
Listed as a World Heritage Site in 1998, UNESCO describes the Summer Palace as “a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design.”
Initially built in 1750, it was severely damaged in 1860 and renovated on the original site in 1886. Artificial landscapes such as pavilions, halls, corridors, temples, and small bridges harmonize with nearby hills and the vast lake, forming a harmonious ensemble of outstanding aesthetic value. It is renowned as a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design. The Summer Palace is known as the “Imperial Garden Museum” in China, preserving national heritage material.
Local Life in Beijing
Lama Temple (Yonghegong) - The Lama Temple, located in the northeast corner of downtown Beijing, is known as a “dragon’s hidden blessing place” due to two emperors, including Emperor Yongzhen and Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, being born there. It features yellow tiles and red walls similar to the Forbidden City.
Comprising three exquisite archways and five grand halls, the Lama Temple was the highest-ranked Buddhist temple in China during the mid to late Qing Dynasty. Its architecture represents the pinnacle of Oriental aesthetics.
It is also the most thriving temple in Beijing. Visitors can pray for academic and career success, as well as blessings related to marriage and health.
At the Lama Temple, visitors can obtain beautifully crafted bracelets made from the ashes of burned incense. The exquisite aromatic ash glass bead bracelet is highly sought after and sometimes even out of stock.
Hutong Tour - The hutongs are what set Beijing apart from other Chinese cities. Visitors can spend hours wandering these narrow, tree-lined lanes, meeting people, and discovering artsy cafes and boutiques. Elder locals sit outside their hutong homes playing Mahjong or entertaining their grandchildren.
Bells ring as people of all ages zoom by on bicycles, interweaving with delivery drivers on electric motorbikes. A lady on the street corner cooks ‘jian bing,’ a savory Chinese crepe, while ethnic Xinjiang people grill ‘chuan’ lamb skewers over hot coals, filling the air with delicious aromas of spice. Around the corner, duck is roasted over applewood, using a method passed down through generations, resulting in Peking Duck that melts in your mouth.
ShiChaHai ChaYi JiuBa Jie (HouMen) - Shichahai Park consists of three water areas—Qianhai, Houhai, and Xihai (also known as Jishuitan)—and their adjacent areas, collectively known as the “Hou Sanhai.” It is renowned as one of the most beautiful places in old Beijing. Historically, Shichahai was home to numerous temples, earning it the nickname “Ten Temples by the Lakes.” The area features typical hutongs and traditional courtyards, shaded by lush trees and intersected by winding paths. It is a popular destination for locals to enjoy boating in summer and ice skating in winter.
