The Call of the Volcano

As a biologist and environmental activist, my heart beats in rhythm with the natural world. The allure of the Villarrica Volcano, Chile’s most active volcano, was irresistible. Nestled in the heart of Pucón, this majestic giant promised an adventure that would challenge my spirit and deepen my connection to the earth. The Easter weekend presented the perfect opportunity, and with the weather on our side, I embarked on this journey with a group of fellow adventurers.

The ascent began with a trek through the lush landscapes of Villarrica National Park. The air was crisp, and the path was lined with volcanic rock, a testament to the raw power of the earth beneath our feet. As we climbed higher, the terrain shifted, demanding more of our physical and mental strength. The return journey took us along a different path, a faster route that allowed us to reflect on the day’s adventure. My only regret was not bringing sandals for the descent, as my boots, still worn from a previous hike, made the rocky terrain challenging.
