This engaging 3-4 hour tour invites participants to savor the finest cheese from the Azores, the Cheijo de São Jorge, and observe its production process. From the cows grazing in the mid and high-altitude pastures to the cheese-making in the Queijarias, every step is a delight.

Participants will witness cows in their almost natural habitat, the lush green pastures of São Jorge Island, which contribute to the cheese’s exceptional quality and distinctive flavor. This quality was acknowledged around 500 years ago by Gaspar Frutuoso as “The best cheese of the Azores.”

The tour includes a visit to the Union of Milk Cooperatives of São Jorge – Uniqueijo, where the traditional and highly esteemed São Jorge cheese is crafted, stored, packaged, and sold using state-of-the-art technologies and methods.

Participants will have the chance to taste this unique product at various stages of maturation, offering different textures and flavors, including 3, 6, and 24-month varieties.
