Taking Amazing Memories Home from Cinque Terre - Holidays are about making memories and Gabriella did just that for us! Our experience started in the town of Levanto. She guided us through the streets showing us its medieval history before ending up at the Church of Sant Andrea. A striking structure comprising of alternating white marble and serpentine. We walked from Levanto to Bonassola along the shoreline and through amazing railway tunnels! The tunnels are illuminated and the views as you emerge are stunning! From the town we walked along steep streets and staircases to Cappella della Madonnina della Punta. This was a definite memory maker! A charming chapel perched on a scenic promontory overlooking the Ligurian Sea! We sat and breathed in the natural beauty! We retraced our steps back to town and boarded a train to Manarola. A village built on a high rock 70m above sea level. The geology of the cliff faces are a wonder in themselves! Off we set up steep streets with a river running beneath them. Gabriella led us up many, many steps until we hit the vineyard terraces. Now that view was simply stunning! Gabriella told us about the history of the area and prominent buildings. She did this at every location. It brought each place to life. From Manarola we walked to Riomaggiore via dell’Amore. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a beautiful paved path offering stunning cliffside views. The path was originally built in 1930 to service and access the railway line that was being built between the towns. What a way to finish our walk! We can’t thank Gabriella enough. Her love of the region and its history will stay with us forever.
