From Waves to Wheels: Discovering Bellagio’s Beauty on a Bike Tour
Trading my surfboard for an e-bike, I embarked on a scenic journey through Bellagio’s hills. With breathtaking views and a taste of local culture, this bike tour was an adventure like no other.
Pedaling Through Paradise
As a professional surfer, my life is usually spent chasing waves and soaking up the sun on sandy beaches. But every now and then, I like to trade my surfboard for a different kind of adventure. This time, it was a group bike tour through the scenic hills of Bellagio, Italy. My wife and I were eager to explore the lush landscapes and picturesque views that this region is famous for. We joined a small group led by our guide, Julia, and her assistant, Mario, who promised us an unforgettable journey.
The tour began at the Bike It! Bellagio shop, where we were introduced to our trusty e-bikes. As someone who spends most of his time on a surfboard, I was a bit apprehensive about tackling the hills on two wheels. But the e-bike was a game-changer, making the steep climbs feel like a breeze. My wife, ever the adventurer, took to it like a fish to water, while I took a moment to get my bearings. Julia was incredibly patient, offering tips and encouragement as we set off on our journey.
A Ride to Remember
The ride took us through the charming town of Barni and up to the Santuario Della Madonna del Ghisallo, a cycling chapel and museum perched high above the lake. The views were nothing short of spectacular, with the shimmering waters of Lake Como stretching out below us. We paused at several viewpoints along the way, capturing the beauty of the landscape with our cameras and in our memories.
As we pedaled along, the traffic was a bit daunting at times, with cars zooming by a little too close for comfort. But Julia assured us that Italian drivers are well accustomed to sharing the road with cyclists. Her calm demeanor and expert guidance helped ease any nerves, allowing us to focus on the stunning scenery around us. The downhill sections were exhilarating, with the e-bike’s disc brakes providing a smooth and controlled descent.
A Taste of Italy
After a morning of cycling, we arrived at the cycling museum, where we took a break to explore the exhibits and soak in the history of this beloved sport. It was a fascinating glimpse into the world of cycling, and a perfect way to rest our legs before the final stretch of the tour.
The ride concluded back at the bike shop, where we were treated to a delicious spread of local delicacies. Pizzas, cheeses, and meats were laid out for us to enjoy, accompanied by refreshing beer and wine. It was the perfect way to unwind and share stories with our fellow riders, who had become fast friends over the course of the day.
Reflecting on the experience, I realized that stepping out of my comfort zone had been incredibly rewarding. The bike tour offered a unique perspective on the beauty of Bellagio, and the camaraderie of our group made it all the more special. For anyone looking to explore this stunning region, I highly recommend this bike tour for an adventure you won’t soon forget.
