Setting Sail on the Angler Management

The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I made my way to Turtle Cove Marina, the starting point for my deep-sea fishing adventure on the ‘Angler Management’. The anticipation was palpable, and I could feel the familiar thrill of the ocean calling to me. As a former professional surfer, the sea has always been my playground, and today, it promised a new kind of excitement.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by the friendly crew, Joseph and Craig, who exuded a laid-back yet professional vibe. The boat itself was a beauty—a 48’ Ocean Super Sport Express, equipped with everything needed for a successful fishing trip. Within minutes, we were cutting through the waves, the twin 600HP engines roaring beneath us. The air-conditioned helm area provided a comfortable spot to relax, but I preferred to be out in the open, feeling the salty breeze on my face.

As we reached the fishing grounds, the crew wasted no time in getting the lines in the water. With seven lines spread across a 40’ area, the anticipation of what lay beneath was electric. For someone who spends most of his time riding waves, the idea of reeling in a catch was a thrilling change of pace.

The ocean was alive with possibilities, and it wasn’t long before we felt the first tug on the line. Joseph and Craig were patient and knowledgeable, guiding us through the process with ease. As a novice in the world of fishing, I appreciated their expertise and the way they made the experience accessible and enjoyable for everyone on board.

Returning to the dock, the crew’s hospitality didn’t end. They cleaned and filleted our catch, making it easy for us to take the fish back to our villa. That evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, we fired up the grill and savored the fruits of our labor. The Mahi Mahi was tender and flavorful, a true taste of the Caribbean.

Later, we transformed the remaining fish into a refreshing ceviche, a perfect way to end a day spent on the water. The experience was more than just a fishing trip; it was a connection to the ocean and its offerings, a reminder of why I chose to make the Caribbean my home.
