Smyrna & Pergamon (the Suffering Church and the Compromising Church)
Izmir - The journey begins in Smyrna, known as “the suffering church.” Visitors are reminded, “Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil will imprison some of you to test you, and you will endure hardship for ten days.” This city is the home of the esteemed 2nd-century Bishop Polycarp, who was martyred by being burned alive at 85.
Pergamon Ancient City - The tour continues to Pergamum, referred to as “the compromising church.” Revelation 2:12-16 describes it as “where Satan’s throne is,” alluding to the altar of Zeus. After the tour, return to Izmir and stay overnight in either Pergamon or Izmir.
Thyatira-Sardes-Philadelphia (the Adulterous Church, the Dead Church, the Faithful Church)
Akhisar - The next stop is Thyatira, “the adulterous church,” which, according to Revelations, tolerated false prophets like Jezebel (Rev. 1:11; 2:18-29).
Sardis (Sardes) - The journey proceeds to Sardes, “the dead church,” another of the Seven Churches of Revelation. Jesus addressed Sardes, “I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead” (Rev. 3:1-6).
Pamukkale and Laodicean Church
Pamukkale - Upon arrival in Pamukkale, visitors can explore the ruins of ancient Hierapolis. There will be a brief stop for photos before continuing to the well-preserved Roman theater. Guests can visit the Necropolis, a graveyard with over two thousand graves. Passing by the Roman baths, the tour reaches the Ancient Pool, where visitors can enjoy swimming in warm spring water. Alternatively, they can walk barefoot down the Travertines, filled with calcium-rich thermal water.
Laodicea - Laodicea is known for being reprimanded for its lukewarm nature, “You are neither cold nor hot” (Rev. 3:15), and for its comfort in blending pagan and Christian beliefs. After the tour, transfer to Kusadasi for an overnight stay.
Ephesus, Virgin Mary, and Church of St. John
Ancient City of Ephesus - The tour includes a visit to Ephesus, “the loveless church,” the most significant of the seven churches.
Meryemana (The Virgin Mary’s House) - The house where the Virgin Mary is believed to have spent her final years.
The Basilica of Saint John - Also known as the Church of St. John the Theologian. After the tour, guests can be transferred back to Izmir airport.
