• Zrze Monastery - Located near the village of Zrze, close to Prilep, the Zrze Monastery is steeped in history. The area is rich with cultural heritage, evidenced by ancient pillars, basilica remains, and other artifacts. Traditionally, monks resided in stone hollows carved into the mountainside cliffs, a practice believed to date back to the 3rd and 4th centuries. Today, the Zrze monastery complex includes the “St. Petar and Pavle” church, inns, and several auxiliary rooms. Beneath the monastery are numerous monk cells, indicating a vibrant monastic life of those belonging to the highest monastic order.
• Treskavec Monastery - Situated on the rocky Mount Zlatovrv, 8 km north of Prilep, the Treskavec Monastery was built in the 12th century and currently houses one monk. It boasts an impressive collection of Byzantine frescoes, with the oldest dating back to the 15th century. The monastery is undergoing renovation and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
• Markovi Kuli (Marko’s Towers) - The Church of St. Michael the Archangel was constructed like an eagle’s nest among the rocks on the southwest side of Marko’s Towers. Originally a single-nave church, today only a small east-west wall remains, featuring a fragment of a fresco depicting a donor composition, though it is heavily damaged. It is believed that this church dates back to the 12th century, was built on two floors, and was dedicated to St. Nicholas.
