- Ditsong Kruger Museum - Located at 60 Nkomo Street, formerly Church Street, this museum is Paul Kruger’s house, featuring a galvanized tin roof and a veranda. It contains the original furniture used by the Kruger family.
The house is directly opposite the Gereformeerde Kerk, the church that Oom Paul and his wife attended on Sundays. Although not a preacher, he would occasionally speak if needed. At the entrance, visitors are greeted by two marble lions donated by Barney Barnato, a friend of the Krugers.
- Pretoria City Hall - Inaugurated in 1935, the city hall features a domed clock tower. The carillon of 32 cylindrical bells was a gift from Sir George Heys, the first owner of Melrose House.
- Melrose House - Situated on Jacob Mare Street, Melrose House is where the Vereeniging Peace Treaty was signed on 31 May 1902, ending the South African War. During the war, the house was requisitioned by the British as the imperial headquarters and became the residence of Lord Roberts, the Commander-in-Chief of the British forces.
Let’s discuss more during the tour!
- Union Buildings - The Union Buildings, located at Meintjieskop, serve as South Africa’s government headquarters. Designed by Sir Herbert Baker in a Renaissance style with classical elements, construction began in 1910 and was completed in 1913.
