Park stroll with some history of the area - Went with David on his first tour through Vyšehrad. My fiancé and I loved the walk through the fortress/Park. David knew everything about Czech history and gave so many details about the legends as well as the medieval and recent history of Prague. Also gave many interesting details of nearby architecture of both the buildings and structures inside the park. If you want to tour a more quite part of the city which more locals visit this is a great way to do so!

Vyšehrad, Summit of Czech Culture & History - The trip to Vyšehrad with Josef as guide was a revelation: a visit to the hilltop heart of Czech culture and history! This ancient fortress was home to the kingdom’s founding dynasty. It houses memorials and graves of great cultural and political figures, such as anti-Soviet politician and feminist Milada Harakóvá, musicians Antonin Dvořak and Bedřich Smetana, as well as painter Alfons Mucha. Vyšehrad is to Prague and Czechia what Père Lachaise and the Panthéon are to Paris and France, well worth the visit and then some! The fortifications from the Middle Ages through the Baroque are still visible in the form of great walls that demarcate the fortress from the rest of the city. Sts. Peter and Paul Basilica is the gem of this crown. Its vast murals shine on the walls and ceilings, its side altars glow with color, and its episcopal and sacramental regalia displayed near the exit resemble crown jewels! In addition, no other location can give you such expansively breathtaking views of one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. Here you can absorb the sight of Prague, both old and new (from the “V-Tower” highrise to Prague Castle), as you can nowhere else in the city. Vyšehrad has a calming presence too. You can relax in the shade of the trees while learning about some of Czechia’s most legendary figures (Libuše, Šárka, and St. John Nepomuk, among others) walking side-by-side with locals for whom the site is more a familiar park for recreation than a tourist destination. Above all, Josef, the guide, was so affable and knowledgeable that I will think of this tour as my most memorable in Prague. Josef is both a professional architect and amateur historian, which makes him ideal for explaining the legends associated with the fortress, how power changed hands here over the centuries, and how and why Vyšehrad’s appearance has changed through time. The pause for coffee (or beer) that we took as part of the tour at one of the site’s cafés gave us the chance to talk about life in Czechia and his father’s connection to the Basilica. Thank you so much, Josef, for this tour of Czechia’s outdoor Hall of Fame! I look forward to retaking the tour on my next visit to Prague, to see the result of the new landscaping that you indicated is to come in the next year or so! And bravo, Viator, for this new and outstanding offering!

Don’t miss this tour!!! - This was a GREAT tour!!! I recommend this after you have done a tour of the Old Town and Castle. We had a small group of 5 which was so very nice and wonderful to get away from the crowds. Josef was fantastic. His knowledge of architecture and history was excellent. We learned so much by seeing Vysehrad. I think it is an under rated attraction and surprised there were so few people. How fun to sit in the park at Vysehrad, drink a beer, and talk to him about life in Prague and his family’s past. Walking through the cemetery and hearing the story of Milada Horakova was very moving. And I didn’t know this is where Dvorak and Smetana’s graves are. This was one of our favorite things we did in Prague. Highly recommend!!!

Vysehrad Castle & Fort - A Hidden Gem - Truly a hidden Gem! Escape the hustle & bustle of the tourist crowds and enjoy the castle grounds, the basilica, cemetery and fort. Josef was quite knowledgeable and shared historical information, tales and mythical legends. Walk around the fortress and view the Prague Castle, Petrin Tower and other sights from a different perspective. Grab a refreshment, or a snack and enjoy the tour!

Amazing PragueWay Tours at Vysehrad Castle! - Do not miss a tour of Vysehrad Castle! Ondra and Josef of PragueWay Tours share the colorful history of the Castle itself and great insight into present day Prague culture, and how it came to be. The views of the city beyond Prague 1 are breathtaking and interesting. From ancient mythology to the imperial power dynamics, through the 20th century wars and challenges, to art, architecture, and what to do on your visit, they cover it all. If you want to get away from tourist crowds and the top hits on every guide, and learn a ton of history and cultural context, with some very pleasant and knowledgeable people, this tour will not disappoint.

Outstanding Tour with a Fabulous Guide - This tour absolutely lived up to its title and booking -Vysehard Castle and Fort is such a relaxing and beautiful hidden gem - the grounds are beautiful, the fort, the old Romanesque church, the legendary statutes, the views, and the over the top beautiful Vysehard Cathedral are not to be missed. And its all only a few tram stops away from the Charles Bridge by tram, or a take a taxi. Ondro is a fabulous English speaking guide, he knows his history, anecdotes, and way around the Castle and Fort. He's a proud life long resident of Prague and his pride is visible in the effort he puts into his tour. He gives just enough information to hold your interest, he keeps us a nice leisurely pace, and he buys you a nice drink - whatever you like at the cafe on the hill. (I had a deliciously cold Czech beer.) Do not miss this tour - this was the second tour we took with Ondro - we enjoyed his tour of Old Town Prague the previous day so much that we did not hesitate to book a second tour with him. I rate his tours 11/10!

Hidden Gem with a Tasty Treat! - My wife and I went on The Castle Side tour with Ondra, and it was such a great experience that we decided to book this tour with him! Ondra is extremely knowledgeable on Czech history and culture! We thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Vyšehrad Castle, learning about it’s history and learning about some of the folk lore associated with some of it’s famous statues. You also get to see some beautiful architecture, landscape, and history that we would have never discovered! Plus you get a tasty drink with the tour! :) 11/10 recommend!
