- Prague Castle - ON THIS TOUR: Join a knowledgeable local guide to explore a history that stretches over a millennium. Discover the journey from tribal beginnings and medieval fortifications, through the era of the imperial city, world wars, and the dark days of communism, to the Velvet Revolution and today’s democratic government. The castle complex is vast, and time can easily slip away here. This tour is crafted to highlight “the best of” as we explore the castle GROUNDS & EXTERIORS. By visiting in the afternoon, we can avoid larger crowds.
This tour is ideal for those who wish to visit, learn, and enjoy quality time at the castle without committing 3-4 hours to explore it fully.
The journey begins in the Lesser Town district, right by the iconic Charles Bridge. A short tram ride takes us to the castle’s side gate.
- St. Vitus Cathedral - St. Vitus Cathedral stands as the largest and most significant temple in Prague. It has hosted religious services and the coronations of Czech kings and queens. The cathedral is also the burial site for several patron saints, sovereigns, noblemen, and archbishops. We will visit the entrance hall interior of the cathedral, except on special closed days.
- Old Royal Palace - The original residence, primarily wooden, was established at Prague Castle around the 9th and 10th centuries, though its exact location is undocumented. In the 12th century, Prince Soběslav constructed a stone Romanesque palace next to a new fortification wall. Remnants of this structure remain preserved underground. The palace was connected on its eastern side to All Saints’ Chapel, consecrated in 1185.
- St. George’s Basilica - St. George’s Basilica was the second church established at Prague Castle. Parts of the building, founded around 920 by Prince Vratislav I, still exist. When the Benedictine nuns’ convent was founded in 973, the church was expanded and reconstructed.
- Zahrady Prazskeho - As a seasonal bonus and at the guide’s discretion, a walk through the Castle gardens may be included.
