Augustus the Strong commissioned the Hofkirche, the Roman Catholic Cathedral, to signify Roman Catholic religious importance in Dresden. The church has been the cathedral “Sanctissimae Trinitatis” since 1980.

• Altmarkt - The Striezelmarkt in Dresden is recognized as the world’s first genuine Christmas market. Established as a one-day market in 1434, it celebrated its 585th anniversary in 2019.
