- Portovenere - Portovenere is a delightful fishing village situated at the western tip of the Gulf of La Spezia, also known as the “Gulf of Poets.” Along with the nearby islands of Palmaria, Tino, and Tinetto, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, celebrated for its invaluable landscape and cultural significance. The village is renowned for its iconic Palazzata a Mare, a long line of colorful, tall, and narrow tower-houses leaning against each other, overlooking the marina. Atop the promontory stands the majestic Castello Doria, an ancient Genoese fortress. At the base of the promontory lies the enchanting Church of San Pietro, built in the Genoese Gothic style, overlooking the sea. Just below the church is the famous Byron Cave, a natural cavity named after the Romantic poet Lord Byron. In essence, Portovenere offers a perfect blend of medieval history, Ligurian architecture, and stunning natural beauty.
- Riomaggiore - This is the easternmost and southernmost village of the Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is renowned as the starting (or ending) point of the Way of Love. The village is built along the valley of the Rivus Maior stream, with its iconic tower-houses rising three or four stories high, leaning against each other and carved into the rock. The main road, Via Colombo, follows the covered course of the ancient stream, while the side streets (“carrugi”) are narrow and steep. The picturesque marina is a small fjord surrounded by these pastel-colored houses, offering one of the most photographed views of the Ligurian Riviera. At the upper part of the village are the Castle of Riomaggiore and the Church of San Giovanni Battista. The area is surrounded by characteristic terraces cultivated with vineyards that produce the renowned D.O.C. wines of the Cinque Terre. Riomaggiore epitomizes Ligurian resilience, a village where architecture harmonizes with the wild nature of the coast.
- Manarola - This is the second village of the Cinque Terre and is globally famous for its distinctive panorama and wine tradition. Similar to Riomaggiore, the tower-houses are painted in the bright pastel colors typical of Liguria and ascend the steep rocky promontory overlooking the sea. The most photographed spot in Manarola is Via Belvedere or Punta Bonfiglio, which offers a breathtaking view of the entire village clinging to the cliff. Manarola is historically the heart of the production of the renowned Sciacchetrà passito wine, and its steep terraces cultivated with vineyards dominate the surrounding landscape. On the hill embracing the village, every year from December 8, the enchanting Luminous Nativity of Manarola is set up, the largest of its kind in the world, made with hundreds of bright figures. Manarola is an architectural jewel that celebrates the fusion between human effort on terraces and the dramatic beauty of the Ligurian coast.
- Vernazza - It is one of the most iconic and photographed villages of the Cinque Terre, celebrated for its authentic maritime atmosphere and its impressive historical fortifications. It is the only village to boast a true natural harbor. All the steep streets and alleys of the village descend and converge towards the beautiful central square overlooking the sea. The village is dominated by two significant defensive structures from the Genoese era: Castello Doria, a fortress that stands on the rocky promontory and offers a spectacular panoramic view of the coast and the town. The evocative Church of Santa Margherita d’Antiochia, recognizable for its Ligurian Gothic style and the unusual 40-meter high bell tower, is built directly on the rocks overlooking the water. The colorful houses, tall and narrow, rise vertically between the rocky outcrop and the sea, surrounded by terraces planted with olive trees and vineyards that have made the area’s landscape famous.
