Marina do Covelo - Begin an awe-inspiring journey through the Douro Valley at this picturesque marina, just a 20-minute drive from Porto’s city center (transfer included)!
Barragem de Crestuma-Lever - Our adventure kicks off with a view of the majestic Crestuma Dam, one of the five on the Douro. Positioned just upstream, we receive a brief explanation of its construction before continuing our journey.
Rio Inha - Named in the Middle Ages, the “Inha River” is a left-bank tributary of the Douro. Its tranquil waters and surrounding landscape resemble a natural park. Here, we pause for an aperitif, and on sunny days, enjoy a swim or try stand-up paddleboarding to explore the banks.
Praia da Lomba - This idyllic spot, distinguished by its golden beach status, is surrounded by lush vegetation, giving it an island-like appearance. Popular with locals in summer, it remains a hidden gem away from tourists.
Arda - At the River Arda’s mouth, observe the historic railway bridge, built last century for coal transport to Porto. This area is rich in natural beauty and biodiversity, making it ideal for fishing and birdwatching.
Entre-os-Rios - This charming Portuguese town, named for the confluence of the Douro and Tâmega rivers, offers stunning views. Enjoy a meal at a traditional restaurant, operating for over 85 years, where wood-fired stoves impart an authentic flavor to the cuisine.
Ilha dos Amores - This enchanting island, steeped in legends, boasts unmatched beauty. Here, the Paiva River joins the Douro. Once home to a small castle, its ruins remain. On sunny days, swimming in the serene waters is a must.
Barragem do Carrapatelo - Prepare for a highlight of the day. Opened in 1972, this is the largest of the Douro’s five dams and one of Europe’s largest. Standing 57 meters tall, capture the moment on video and photos. At the top, savor a selected wine or refresh with champagne.
Porto Antigo - At the confluence of the “Bestança” and “Douro” rivers, “Porto Antigo” emerges like a painting. It overlooks “Porto Manso,” an ancient village with the iconic “Ponte de Mosteirô.”
Caldas de Aregos - Conclude the first day in this quintessential Portuguese village, deeply connected to Douro Valley culture. Renowned for its healing thermal waters, it features delightful restaurants and wine farms. Enjoy a comfortable stay in a hotel or farmhouse rated 4 stars or higher.
Closer to the Renowned Douro Vineyards!
Douro River - Nearing the destination, the first farms appear, showcasing the world-famous terraced vineyards that produce this precious wine. A World Heritage Site, this landscape deserves to be savored leisurely.
Ponte Rodoviaria da Regua - The Régua Railway Bridge, a renowned Douro Valley landmark, was built in 1932, linking Peso da Régua and Lamego. Nearby is the Douro’s third dam, the Bagaúste Dam. The surrounding vineyards and terraces mark it as the Douro wine region’s capital.
Cais da Régua - By 3pm, we reach our destination, which could also be the start of your next adventure! Continue exploring northern Portugal and the Douro. We can arrange a visit to a wine farm with a tasting. Though our journey ends, our eagerness to assist you in Portugal remains. After disembarking, enjoy 2 hours of free exploration. If no further visits are desired, our private car transfer will return you comfortably to your Porto hotel in under two hours.
Quinta do Seixo - Situated on the Douro River’s south bank, between Régua and Pinhão, Quinta do Seixo spans 100 hectares and is a prominent traditional wine producer in the Douro Wine Region. Offering stunning valley views, it serves as Sandeman’s flagship in the Douro, featuring the iconic Sandeman Don, created by George Massiot Brown in 1928. Stroll through the estate’s historic vineyards or enjoy a glass of Port by the fireplace, taking in the breathtaking views of one of Portugal’s and the world’s most beautiful landscapes.
