Dugan's trip into Portland's African American history - I thought it was a great, very in depth look at Black history through the century in Portland. My guide Dugan took his time to careful explain how ghe African American population influenced Portland. He happily answered questions. He did a wonderful job with his presentation along with the pictures he displayed the locations during specific time periods.

Must-do tour between food and drink! - My wife and I have done a ton of historical tours, and Dugan was the best guide we’ve ever had. We did the two hour Black History tour, and I can’t recommend it enough. He’s a masterful storyteller, engaging and empathetic, and gives you a sense of the city you’ve never had before. A public historian in the best sense of the term. Can’t recommend enough.

Well worth the walk - During a walk of about two and a quarter hours, we got a rich history lesson about Portland’s many Black citizens, past and present. Dugan has done a lot of intimate research into people whose names I’ve never heard (and a few I had). I’ve lived and worked in Portland for over 15 years, and this tour was packed with information I never heard before. Thank you!

Tour exceeded expectations - Tour guide was phenomenal. Excellent research, very engaging storyteller. The pace worked well, with several opportunities to take a seat if desired. The last part of the tour was a rather steep uphill climb but paced well. Tour ended about a 15 minute walk from the start, so just plan on that extra time. I would def take another tour from this group - maybe even the same one again!

Phenomenal experience - This was an absolutely phenomenal experience. My wife and I both enjoyed this tour so much. I grew up in the area, have been away for years, and recently moved back. I had never learned so much of what Dugan covers on this tour. My wife is from the Dominican Republic, and she appreciated learning this local history that also connects with larger African history. Dugan is energetic, outgoing, knowledgeable, and knows how to communicate information in an engaging way. It’s clear that he put a ton of work into researching the people, places, events, and issues he covers. The tour distance and pacing is also well done. We cannot recommend this tour enough!
