• Baldwin Street: The Steepest Street in the World - Renowned worldwide in Dunedin, a visit to the city isn’t complete without seeing Baldwin Street! Walk or run to the top if you’re up for a challenge, or simply admire it from below. Souvenirs are often available, and there are plenty of great photo opportunities. We always ensure time for a proper visit to the World’s Steepest Street.
• University of Otago - As New Zealand’s first university and one of the largest, with around 20,000 students, a quick stop here offers a genuine taste of Dunedin’s student culture. A very short walk leads to the Leith River flowing through the central campus, providing a stunning view of the original Clocktower Building constructed in the 1870s.
• Olveston Historic Home - Visit the gardens of Olveston Homestead (free entry). A short walk highlights features such as the family’s vintage touring car, the original site of the old cottage from the 1860s, and the beautiful botanical conservatory. There’s also time to explore the magnificent gift shop inside the house.
• Speight’s Brewery - A significant landmark in Dunedin, Speight’s Brewery has been crafting beer since 1876, making it the oldest working brewery in the country. We make a brief stop here, allowing just enough time to explore the gift shop and perhaps sample a wee drop of the good stuff.
• The Octagon - Our tour includes 1 hour of free time in the Octagon, Dunedin’s city center. This area is home to excellent gift shops, banks, ATMs, cafes, bars, and restaurants, as well as stunning heritage buildings like St Paul’s Cathedral, Dunedin Town Hall, and the Regent Theater. Explore the Writer’s Walk, as Dunedin is recognized by UNESCO as an official “City of Literature.” There are street games and activities for both children and adults, offering plenty to see in this vibrant central city hub.
• Dunedin Railway Station - Dunedin’s Grand Railway Station is a true highlight of our tour. It stands as a symbol of Dunedin’s prosperity during the early 20th century. We allow time to admire this magnificent building from the gardens, as well as its beautiful interior.
• Toitu Otago Settlers Museum - One of New Zealand’s top museums, this cultural extravaganza celebrates the people of Dunedin and their remarkable achievements over the years. The museum is rich with artifacts, showcasing local Maori history through to present-day innovations. We typically stop here only on rainy days, but we often drop off passengers here if they wish during our 1-hour free time in the middle of the tour.
• St Clair Beach - If time allows, we visit the beach. St Clair is Dunedin’s popular city beach. Spot surfers riding the waves as we pass by the cafes and bars on the beachfront Esplanade. A brief stop for photos is made before taking another scenic route for more coastal views on the way back to the cruise ship.
