• Piscinas de Ponta Delgada - After departing from the São Vicente caves and passing through the village of São Vicente, you will arrive at the delightful village of Ponta Delgada. Surrounded by forested mountain walls, this serene traditional fishing village features a seafront dominated by the Bom Jesus church. To the east of the church lies a modern lido complex. As you leave Ponta Delgada, you will pass through “Boaventura,” where you can enjoy the stunning scenery. The area is a vivid display of beauty.
• Santana - The next stop is the charming village of “Santana,” named after St. Anne. It is known for its iconic ‘A’ framed houses. These triangular thatched buildings were originally used by local farmers as cow sheds, and traditionally, people also lived in them. This is one of Madeira’s most recognizable images. You will discover the spaciousness of the ‘A’ framed houses when you visit one.

Continuing the journey to the largest parish of Santana, “Faial,” which is named after the beech trees, an indigenous myricaceae, that grow in the stream valleys and on the mountains. This picturesque village is situated high above the sea and features a charming little church. At the river’s mouth, there is a modern lido complex with a sea pool, children’s playground, and a rocky beach. You will stop here for lunch.

Porto do Cruz is located at the base of a rock called Penha d´Aguia. Its name derives from the “Cruz” (cross) that explorers placed on the bay. It was once used as a port (Porto) by the locals. The only operational sugar mill on the north coast is found in this village, with its brick chimney standing tall. It boasts a beautiful sea promenade.

• Ponta de São Lourenço - The eastern side of Machico bay is dominated by Pico do Facho, a 320-meter-high peak named after the beacon (facho) that was once lit here to alert residents of approaching pirates.

The final stop is “Ponta de São Lourenço,” the easternmost point of the island. The area around Caniçal and São Lourenço shares a similar climate with the island of Porto Santo. The natural vegetation here is noticeably different. Both the north and south coasts can be viewed simultaneously, and on a clear day, Porto Santo is also visible. This region is known for its stunning rock formations.
