Munnar (Kerala) 4WD Trek up tea plantations - As part of our schedule we met up with our guide Soloman and jeep driver Thangham, for what turned out to be one our best days whilst traversing South India. It was advertised as "off-road" for the simple reason that the road going up the mountain (in parts 2,000m/6,000 feet above sea level) was heavily rutted and by the end of our experience we felt as if we had a been submitted to a "full body massage". About a third of the way up we opted to walk up an offshoot trail (meeting up with the jeep further up the mountain). The weather was mild and Soloman guided us up a beautiful trail meeting with tea pickers passing by for their lunch break. We crossed small bridges over streams and admired the fantastic views down/across the valley. The walk was gentle, but terrain in parts was difficult so important to be watchful whilst treading carefully when required. The walk can be short/long depending on how much time you have. It's possible to go all the way to the top, but that would have taken at least two hours. As we climb the views are of the tea plantations stretching out around us and beyond, with guide occasionally pointing out lemon grass, basil and many other plants and herbs. We meet up with the jeep which takes us up to the top, where we stop for sandwiches, a chocolate bar and fruit thoughtfully provided by our guide. The breathtaking scenery is worth the "trek". We are informed this viewing location was in the adjoining state of Tamil Nadu! We could see cloud formation on the mountain opposite as a breeze flowed up the mountain and the water vapour created small wispy clouds. Our stop at the top is at over 5,000 feet and the surrounding tea plantation (established by British planters in the 1920s) is the highest in India and the world with parts reaching an elevation of 7,900 feet (2,400 meters). On the way down (a stomach churning descent) we stopped off at a fully operational tea plantation, where Soloman being a regular visitor could freely take us around and show us how the four stage process transforms fresh leaves into processed tea. Oolong, green and black tea are produced using the same starting point (the picked leaves), but ending up with different flavours and colours. At the end of the tour you can have a tasting of five different teas and buy these - no pressure to buy, and surprisingly prices much better than other retail outlets.

Good time in Sn Miguel - Good service, reliable as they didn’t cancel even when noone else showed. Julio was a great guide, knowledgable and also easy to talk to. I had a good time driving around. Not sure if it’s obvious, but this tour stops in Furnas and you can go and bathe in the pool (you have about 1.5hrs there), so take a swimsuit and a towel for this trip!

A great experience all around! - Our tour experience was fantastic! Andre was extremely knowledgeable and explained everything in great detail. He gave us time to explore on our own, and was available if we needed help or had questions. Learned so much and had so much fun! Would ask for him directly if we do it again. Very happy with the Azores tales experience!

Rainy day fun! - Really liked the hot springs, but wish we would have been given more instructions on how to use the lockers. Lunch was great at Tony's in Furnas. I also had sent a message through Viator to the tour operator and it was never answered.
