• Vila Franca do Campo - The tour begins with a scenic drive along the stunning coastline, featuring views of the islet of Vila Franca do Campo as we head towards Furnas. This journey takes approximately 45 minutes from Ponta Delgada.

• Lagoa das Furnas - The “Lagoa das Furnas” (Furnas Lagoon), nestled within a dormant volcanic caldera, is a major attraction for tourists, hikers, biologists, and bird watchers. It boasts a rich variety of endemic and non-dangerous invasive flora and fauna. The area’s geothermal activity is ingeniously utilized by locals to cook a unique Portuguese dish: the “Cozido das Furnas,” a blend of meats, vegetables, and tubers, slow-cooked underground for 6-7 hours.

• Furnas - As part of this culinary experience, we’ll savor the geo-cooked stew at a traditional local restaurant. The menu includes a starter, main dish, drinks, dessert, and coffee, with vegetarian options and alternative dishes for children available upon request.

• Poca da Dona Beija - Immerse yourself in the Dona Beija hot springs pools, with water temperatures around 39ºC (102ºF), surrounded by lush vegetation and the soothing sounds of birds. This is a perfect moment for relaxation and reflection, away from daily stress. The ferrous-rich waters are excellent for skin care but not recommended for dyed hair. Admission is not included. Please consult your physician if you have any medical conditions that may be incompatible with thermal baths.

• Furnas - Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the Alameda Garden near the center of Furnas. Take in the surroundings of the freshwater streamlet, discover a hidden aquarium, and admire a man-made waterfall.

• Caldeira das Furnas - Conclude the tour by marveling at the impressive boiling water pools at Furnas during the evening. Experience a natural smoke and light show, a unique spectacle in the Azores. Sample the rich mineral water springs and indulge in a local homemade sweet treat.

• Ribeira Grande - We’ll return via the northern side of the island in a safe and relaxed manner. This 40-minute journey offers an opportunity to rest or receive recommendations for other attractions and activities around the island.

• We book the “Dona Beija” entries for you: extra fee of 17€ charged over the listed tour price. Please confirm with us after booking if you opt for this choice. Guarantee your spot inside.
• The remaining time of the Tour (45 + 45 minutes difference) is the minimum time driving between our destinations. Don’t worry we’ll have plenty to see even while driving.
• Please bring swimwear and a bathing towel for the hot springs (light colored fabrics will get stained). Towel rental and other extras available at hot springs facilities.
• Any options chosen outside the menu for dinner will be charged separately.
• The entrance to “Lagoa das Furnas” is charged 3€ for non-residents. This fee is only charged at site, if the box office is open at time of arrival.
