The region’s rich geothermal activity has inspired locals to create a unique method of cooking a traditional Portuguese dish: the “Cozido das Furnas,” a blend of meats, vegetables, and tubers that are slowly cooked underground for 6-7 hours.
- Furnas - As part of the culinary experience on this tour, enjoy the aforementioned geo-cooked stew at a traditional local restaurant, with a menu that includes a Starter, Main Dish, Drinks, Dessert, and Coffee (vegetarian options available and alternative dishes for children with prior notice).
- Poca da Dona Beija - Immerse yourself in the Dona Beija hot springs pools, with water temperatures around 39ºC (102ºF), surrounded by lush vegetation and the soothing sounds of birds. This is a moment of relaxation and contemplation that will help you escape daily routines and worries. The rich ferrous waters are renowned for their skincare benefits but are not suitable for dyed hair. Admission is NOT included. Some medical conditions may not be compatible with thermal baths, so please consult your physician before participating.
- Furnas - Take a leisurely stroll through the Alameda Garden next to the Furnas center, enjoy the surroundings of the freshwater streamlet, and discover a hidden aquarium and a man-made waterfall.
- Caldeira das Furnas - Conclude the tour by marveling at the impressive boiling water pools at Furnas during the nighttime: a natural smoke and light show awaits, offering a unique experience in the Azores. Sample the rich mineral water springs and savor a local homemade sweet treat.
- Ribeira Grande - Return via the northern side of the island in a safe and relaxed setting. This 40-minute journey allows time for a nap or to receive recommendations for other places to visit and activities to enjoy around the island.

- The remaining time of the Tour (45 + 45 minutes difference) is the minimum time driving between our destinations. Don’t worry we’ll have plenty to see even while driving.
- Please bring swimwear and a bathing towel for the hot springs (light colored fabrics will get stained). Towel rental and other extras available at hot springs facilities.
- Any options chosen outside the menu for dinner will be charged separately.
- The entrance to “Lagoa das Furnas” is charged 3€ for non-residents. This fee is only charged at site, if the box office is open at time of arrival.

Magical and Mystical Visit to Furnas and it's Hot Springs with Ivo - Our evening tour of Furnas was absolutely unforgettable and one of the best experiences we had on São Miguel. The entire evening was beautifully organized, from exploring the geothermal wonders of Furnas to enjoying the famous traditional cozido dinner and ending the night soaking in the relaxing hot springs under the stars.
The dinner itself was incredible — authentic, flavorful, and such a unique way to experience Azorean culture. Learning how the cozido is slow-cooked underground using volcanic heat made the meal even more special. After dinner, the stop at the hot springs was the perfect ending: peaceful, warm, and unbelievably relaxing.
What truly made this tour exceptional, though, was our guide, Ivo. His knowledge of São Miguel and the Azores was amazing, and you could immediately tell how passionate he is about his island. He shared so much history, local insight, and fascinating information throughout the evening, making every stop more meaningful and memorable.
Ivo also went above and beyond in making everyone feel welcome. He was constantly offering fantastic recommendations for places to visit, restaurants to try, scenic viewpoints, and hidden gems around the island — the kind of local advice you would never find in a guidebook. One of the sweetest touches was that he even brought homemade treats prepared by his mother to share with the group, which made the experience feel personal, warm, and genuinely heartfelt.
You can tell Ivo truly loves what he does and takes pride in sharing the beauty and culture of São Miguel with visitors. His kindness, enthusiasm, and attention to detail turned a great tour into an unforgettable one. Highly, highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting the island.

So glad we did! - We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Ivo was an attentive and knowledgeable guide. Being in a small group made it very personal. Dinner was excellent. Experiencing furnace and the hot springs at night was amazing. This is not an experience we could’ve had on our own. Highly recommended!

So glad we did! - What a wonderful evening! Ivo is a very attentive and knowledgeable tour guide. Transportation was comfortable. The tour was very informative and personal in such a small group. Dinner was very relaxing, with the local dish and wine excellent and plentiful. We loved the hot springs at night. This is something we definitely could not have done on our own. Highly recommended!!!

The Highlight Of Our Vacation! - This tour was AMAZING! Our tour guide Ivo was so friendly and kind, and he was so knowledgeable about the island. The hot springs were beautiful and relaxing and the restaurant we went to for dinner served a traditional stew that was hearty, flavorful, and DELICIOUS! My husband and I tried our best to finish the stew but we begrudgingly had to stop eating because we got stuffed 😅 Touring the town at night was indeed magical and unlike anything I've seen. This tour is definitely a MUST and well worth the money for what's included.

Fantastic experience!!! - We were very happy with both the tour and the guide. Ivo made the tour very enjoyable, he explained many details about the island and gave us good recommendations for our visit to the islands, attentive at all times.
Very well planned, visit to Furnas, typical stew, relaxing bath at dusk, and night walk among fumaroles.... Fantastic!!!

Unique experience, and the... - Unique experience, and the guide, Ivo, was great. We went as a couple and were joined in a small group of 7 people of which only we spoke Spanish, Ivo was explaining everything in both languages very fluid and very enjoyable, made the trip and experience seem short. We picked up super punctual at the hotel and fulfilled the whole itinerary as described. The organization of the activity is perfectly designed and calculated, gave time to everything and with extras. He informed us all the way through the history of the island, the places, ... and answered all our curiosities. The experience was spectacular because you can enjoy those differences between day and night, which makes the excursion truly special and indescribable the sensations. In the end, he sent us recommendations from the island (restaurants, places to visit, etc) which helped us a lot in the rest of the trip and was kind enough to bring homemade sweets from his family to give the final snap to the visit, which gives him added value. Don’t miss the opportunity to take this tour, it’s one of those experiences you only live once in your life. Unique tour and unforgettable experience - Me and my friend enjoyed the tour a lot! It is so unusual. Ivo, our guide, made sure we experienced Furnas in the evening when it's dark, it's really a mystic vibe there with the water boiling and steam everywhere. The spa was wonderful. The food cooked in the heated by volcano water was yummy. The views are gorgeous. Truly unique tour and we are grateful to your guide Ivo for the experience!

Amazing tour!!! - Great tour! Highly recommend! So educational and surprisingly unique! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and experienced, answered all our questions with patience and enthusiasm. We felt safe and in good hands, considering the tour was mostly at night and in the dark. We visited several places, more than we expected so it felt like we got a good bang for our buck. And each place was better and more beautiful that the last! Hard to pick a favorite. I loved the lake views at sunset 🌅 and hot springs ground stoves all over the small park, the hot springs tubs were just stunning and sooo relaxing 😌. We saw some bunnies , got to pet a few kitties 🐱 We stopped by a small island and did few pictures by the ocean 🌊 Then was the delicious traditional hot oven dinner with red wine and green tea 🍵 or coffee ☕️. He was patient once again and waited for us to enjoy the hot springs tubs for over one and a half hours. He also paid for our passes so we don’t have to figure out their website, and trusted us to pay him $17 euros back each. He then took us to the mineral water springs where we tried about 7-8 different waters, even carbonated ones. All delicious btw. And different temperature underground waters were slowly sipping through the ground in different spots. We felt the ground being warm at night, especially on a cool night on May 2nd. That was kinda neat. Same was the steam coming from the ground all around us! Right in a middle of a housing development while people were sleeping!!! It looked like the whole town is about to blow up. But he reassured us that this is normal and locals come here often to cook corn 🌽 on the steam and always decorate the whole steam section for Xmas 🎅 🎄 with countless figurines. And there were so many stories and traditions like these! Fascinating!
At the end he gave each of us a baked bean muffin, which we devoured right away. Home made too, which was a nice touch. All around - an amazing tour! Will definitely go back!

Magical! - Ivo was very knowledgeable with the history of Sao Miguel. He made us feel very comfortable with waters and umbrellas when the rain started. The stops on this tour were truly breath taking which included a delicious Azorean stew/dinner! He also gave us time to explore on our own. Highly recommend!
