Absolutely amazing experience! - José was an incredible guide - friendly, knowledgeable and very passionate about showing us the real beauty of São Miguel. He took us to amazing spots we would never have found on our own and made the whole day feel personal and relaxed. He was flexible with time, patient, and made us feel completely safe throughout the 4x4 tour.
We truly had one of the best days of our trip thanks to him — highly recommended to anyone visiting the Azores!

Excellent full day private tour - Jose was fantastic. He shared so much info about so many different topics and I loved the off roading. Living here his whole life he had such great insight into everything. He curated our day based on interests and the weather.

Excellent tour with local expert - José is a knowledgeable, engaging tour guide. He is local to Sao Miguel so he is intimately familiar with the island — it’s roads, the best spots for views (including off the beaten path vantage points — which his 4x4 is well equipped to navigate), and more. He is a wealth of information too, from island history to scientific details about the flora and fauna. The tour is a combination of breathtaking, picturesque views and education. I wanted to chat and learn a lot so he indulged me but he can also tailor the experience if you want to just focus on views. The whole tour was amazing from start to finish; he even adjusted the itinerary order based on his assessment of the weather conditions for optimal views. I enjoyed the tour so much I booked another tour with him. Highly recommend.

Jose (Joseph) of Carpe Diem Tours is an A+++ Guide. Book him if he is available!!!!!! - Three couples booked Jose (aka Zeph short for Joseph) for a full day tour 6/26/25 and couldn't be more pleased. Jose is professional, courteous, fantastic English, knowledgeable, fun, enthusiastic and he truly loves his job of showing off beautiful Sao Miguel island. We build our trip the morning of and did the Western Island including Sete Cidades and a fantastic lunch in Lagoa Azul. We experienced a local Cow Jam (Cows crossing the streets to move fields) some great look out views and a full day of interesting island facts. Additionally Jose spend time personally writing down things to do for the rest of the week and restaurant recommendations and all proved to be on point. All of us have travelled frequently and each of us was Most Impressed with our experience with Carpe Diem Dream Tours.

Great tour and tour guide! - I booked this tour because it hit all the highlights and was well-reviewed by everyone. And I have to agree! This is an excellent tour. Jose is great guide. Right after I booked, he emailed me to confirm. He picked us up at our hotel right on time. He has comprehensive knowledge about the island's history, geology, and flora, and speaks excellent English. His 4x4 went places others could not (see photo I took through the windshield), up around the Sete Cidades rim and then down to the bottom. And he is a very safe driver! We saw all the natural wonders of the West side of the island, including a lunch break, and never felt rushed. It was a full and fulfilling day. I heartily recommend this tour!

Three wonderful days - We have spent recently 3 days touring the island with Jose and all I can say is that he is one of the best guides I have ever met in my over 40 years of traveling through the world. He does his job with the heart and it really shows! Nothing is to much trouble if it would make you enjoy more the trip

Passionate tour guide - Thank you for an unforgettable private 4x4 tour on May 26, 2025! Everything about the day was perfect—from the stunning weather and scenic drive to the incredible viewpoints and the delicious meal at a local restaurant. He also added in the chocolate factory:)
We had so many questions throughout the day, and Jose Maria Santos was exceptional—knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about the Azores. His insights added so much depth to our experience.
We would absolutely tour with him again and highly recommend his services to anyone visiting the islands. Thank you for making our first trip to the Azores so special. We’re already looking forward to coming back!

Great day exploring spectacular sights - We thoroughly enjoyed our private tour with Jose. He was very personable and knowledgeable, and very willing to take pictures of us at these remarkable sights.
