Pompeii and Amazing View from Vesuvius - Both of my guides were excellent for Pompeii and Vesuvius. They were knowledgeable and had great descriptions and explanations of the ruins and their society. Simona was our guide up to Vesuvius summit, she was wonderful and encouraging to those of us that struggled a little to make the climb. I did it! If I can do it almost anyone can. It was an amazing experience and view. I recommend this tour for sure!

Our day exploring Pompeii... - Our day exploring Pompeii and the Mount Vesuvius area turned out to be one of those unforgettable travel experiences that remain special precisely because of their surprises. We started in Pompeii with our guide Raffaela, who was simply exceptional. She’s one of those rare guides who mix deep archaeological knowledge with a warm, engaging storytelling style that makes the ruins feel alive. Even with a light, on-and-off drizzle, she turned every stop into a meaningful moment — explaining the city’s layout, daily life, politics, art, and the very human stories behind the stones. Her passion and clarity made the tour absolutely perfect. For the Vesuvius portion, our guide Mario took over. He was friendly, attentive, and very transparent about the changing weather conditions. We drove all the way up to the upper access point of the volcano, but just as we were about to enter the crater trail, the park authorities closed the path due to heavy rain and thick fog rolling in. Visibility dropped dramatically, and the weather turned harsh — absolutely beyond anyone’s control. Mario handled the situation brilliantly. Instead of ending the day early or leaving us disappointed, he immediately proposed an alternative: visiting Herculaneum (Ercolano). And what a brilliant choice that was. Even with rain still falling, exploring Herculaneum turned into a deeply rewarding experience. The site is incredibly well-preserved, more intimate than Pompeii, and full of details that help complete the picture of what life looked like before the eruption. It ended up being a highlight of the day, and absolutely worth it. Overall, this tour delivered everything it promised — and when nature forced a change of plans, the team transformed it into something equally memorable. For anyone dreaming of hiking up Vesuvius, I’d recommend choosing a season with more stable weather, as closures can happen suddenly. But rain or shine, this tour offers rich history, fantastic guides, and a genuinely meaningful experience.

We had the chance to... - We had the chance to visit Pompeii with Anna Sorrento, an archeologist actively working at uncovering the wonders of Pompeii. We could see she was full of passion of this wonderful site and that our short time together wasn’t enough to show us all the secrets she had to share. We had to cut the visit short to take the bus to Vesuvius but we would have gladly spent the whole day with her! Grazie Anna! After that, we had about 10-15 min to buy a sandwich and hop on the bus for the next part, the visit of mount Vesuvius with Mario. Mario was fantastic, explaining things along the way and guiding us through the (challenging for some) hike up the summit of the Vesuvius. The summit was clouded so we couldn’t see the view of Naples, but Mario still explained what we should see and what the other peak that we saw poking through the clouds was. A special thank you to the bus driver too, for taking us through the winding roads leading up to the summit! Even though we started the tour at Pompeii, the tour bus brought us back to Naples, which save us a trip on the Circumvesuviana. We did not know that was an option and were pleasantly surprised by it. Overall, a wonderful day spent with amazing people!

Totally worth it! - Mario is a very knowledgeable and patient tour guide. My son and I truly enjoyed the hike to Mount Vesuvius and more so because of Mario’s generosity with his knowledge. Totally recommend this excursion! And, yes it’s about a 6 hour tour. Plus, we were dropped off at Napoli Centrale after the hike, which saved us time and money!

So fun! - I want to start out by saying Nicoletta was the best tour guide for Pompeii! She gave so many interesting facts about the place that made the ruins come to life! Also the hike to Mount Vesuvius was so beautiful and not too hard (wear good shoes though). Our tour guide for Mount Vesuvius canceled last minute due to sickness, but Viator set us up with a bus and an audio guide, which was fine. And they partially refunded us as well. They were very easy to work with and I would recommend this to anybody!!

Great guides on both tours but no visibility on Mt. Vesuvius - We participated in the Tour of Pompeii with Benedetto. He gave us a lot of interesting information as well as tips on viewing the current excavations and where to eat/drink during the break between the tours. He was very knowledgeable and had worked on the excavations for 17 years. The second half of our day was the Mount Vesuvius tour. Mario was very professional and also very informative on the mechanism of the eruption itself, how it affected Pompeii and Herculaneum and the current state of Vesuvius and the risk to the surrounding area. We highly rate both tour guides. The tour company states they will cancel the Vesuvius portion of the tour and refund the money if the weather is bad. Prior to leaving Pompeii, at least half of Mt. Vesuvius was covered by clouds and fog but the tour proceeded anyway. At the top we encountered high winds, rain and very dense fog and only a few feet of visibility. We could not even see the crater when standing right next to it. On our way back the entrance to the crater was actually closed. Obviously, the tour operator did not want to lose the fees but the trip should not have proceeded.

Great Pompeii guide, but DISHONEST company, DO NOT USE - Great, fantastic tour guide at Pompeii, he was fabulous, and so educational. However DO NOT RECOMMEND this tour company. Mount Vesuvius part of the tour was canceled because of weather, which we completely understand, but we were promised a refund when we were there and then the company REJECTED our refund. I reached out on the chat several times, the company kept saying “we are looking into it” until they closed the chat. The tour guide told us that the Mt Vesuvius tickets the company had purchased were refundable, yet we did not receive this money back and the company kept the money. USE A DIFFERENT TOUR COMPANY, THIS COMPANY REFUSED TO REFUND US WHEN HALF THE TOUR WAS CANCELED.
