- Wasgamuwa National Park - The safari guide will meet visitors at the national park’s entrance and take them on an exciting journey. The park is home to a diverse range of wildlife, with a special emphasis on Sri Lankan Elephants. Birdwatchers will delight in the numerous species and varieties of birds that can be spotted at Wasgamuwa National Park. Additionally, visitors can admire the vibrant array of flowers and herbs. The park also features ruins from ancient kings who once ruled the area. The adventure will be conducted in a multi-terrain (4WD) game vehicle.
Wasgamuwa National Park is a wildlife sanctuary as part of the Mahaweli River Development Project. It receives between 1650 and 2100 millimeters of rainfall and maintains an average annual temperature of 28°C. Located in the dry zone, the park’s wilderness is one of the few areas with ample water during the dry season, thanks to irrigation tanks constructed by ancient kings centuries ago. This abundance of water attracts wildlife to settle within the park’s boundaries.
