- Samudra Parakrama - Parakrama Samudraya (Sinhala: Sea of Parakrama), constructed by King Parakramabahu the Great, is the largest ancient man-made rainwater reservoir in Sri Lanka, prominently located on the western side of the Polonnaruwa district.
- Statue of Parakramabahu I - The statue has sparked discussions and debates regarding its true identity. Archaeologists have yet to reach a definitive conclusion. The sculpture, standing at 3.5 meters tall, is believed to represent King Parakramabahu the Great. Alternatively, it might depict the sage Pulasti, after whom the city was named Pulastinagara.
- Potgul Pedesa - The excellent acoustics of Potgul Vehera suggest that the library also served as an auditorium for reading books, reciting Buddhist teachings, and chanting blessings known as “Pirith.” The buildings, referred to as Potgul Vihara or library, were used for similar purposes as the shrine at Polonnaruwa.
- Polonnaruwa Vatadage - The Vatadage, a circular relic house, showcases an elegance and beauty that is rare even in ancient Sri Lanka. Along the outer circle of stone pillars is a beautifully decorated screen wall adorned with four-petalled flowers.
- Nissanka Latha Mandapaya - Nissanka Latha Mandapaya, constructed by King Nissankamalla, is an innovative masterpiece reflecting the grandeur of classical architecture. The pavilion was believed to be used for chanting Buddha’s teachings, and an inscription at the site reveals that the king listened to the chanting of “pirith,” which are Buddhist blessings.
- Pabalu Vehera - Built during the late Anuradhapura period and expanded during the Polonnaruwa period, the stupa is encircled by four image houses positioned at the cardinal points. The limestone Buddha statues are sculpted in various postures. In the southern image house is a Samadhi Buddha statue, a remarkable piece of art. To the north of Pabalu Vehera lies the main street of the ancient city of Polonnaruwa.
- Gal Vihara - Gal Viharaya, or the Rock Temple, stands unparalleled among ancient monastic structures, featuring a series of colossal Buddha statues carved from a granite boulder. The most notable is the standing image, which is 7 meters (23 feet) tall.
